Wrong spark plug
Wrong jetting
Ignition advanced too much

One possibility could be if you had an exhaust leak where the headpipe meets up with the cylinder. Sorry to hear of your woes.... hope you get it fixed and back up and running soon.
holding at a certain amount of revs for a certain amount of time can decrease the life of a piston and cause weak spots.
basically what happens is that the flow in the engine doesnt change if the revs dont change, so therefore you get 'hot spots'.

mine did the same, at 12,500 :) nakkered my head to shreds too, check ur head if ur using it again.... and as law says, its to do with heatspots at a cartain amount of revs it will produce heat in exactly the same place on the piston, which unluck for us is the weak spot on the piston
Edit: i put lewy instead of Law, its been a long day!

luke is my mate, his bike just gradually started to die.
He had standard jetting, but he had added a race pipe and drilled the air box, so is jetting most likely to be the problem?

Probably too weak.
Always do a plug chop after any mods. If in doubt, run a little bit rich rather than lean to protect the piston crown.

On the note of drilling, what does it actually do to a stock bike and how do you do it? Also, are there any effects, like shorter lifespan on parts etc? Thanks

you can get a POD air filter off ebay for £9.50 delieverd, works a charm.

But after any change to inlet or exhaust, do a plug chop to check the jetting. Don't belive anything it says on the box.

What does it actually do though?

improves airflow in to the engine, and in theory more power, but i doubt it alone will make any difference.

Is that with or without re-jetting?
