Hi all
My project is on hold till i removpe the other bolt out the startor motor case, teh left was easy to get out (paid someone to do it) but they got it out no problem cos you can get straight to it but the right side bolt is half behind the left side of the case! Any ideas how to remove this bolt? The bolt head has snapped off - just the thread in the case, can i solder a screwdriver to it or not? Thats my best idea or do I really ahve to split the cases (NOOOOOO :( )
PLEASE HELP, There may be a cash reward to anyone who can tell me a method that will work WITHOUT removing the case.
Thanks
Tom :pissed: :bangwall:
What about drilling into the bolt and unscrewing it that way?
i dont think he can gt the drill that way.
what about---i know its crazy----
can u not drill it from the otherside???
make a hole, then rethread it or use a bolt/nut combination to hold it on.

there are a few ways using engineers equipment, do you have any way of using this equipment. like acetelyne torches and welders for example.

give us a quick piccy of the damage in question tom.........id be able to advise you better with a good piccy of your fuck-up!:D
only joking dude, but get the camera out.....

tom i like the idea of soldering a screw drive i think that sounds the best bet of getting it out.
yeh but the solder wont hold if the screw is corroded and needs real force to turn it

yes me too. soldering a screwdriver is probs ur best bet. i was thinking you could weld (tac) a nut on and then take it off with mould grips or heat it up with an acetelyne torch and knock it out. very similar to the screwdriver method so that is probably easier.
the only option really is to get a drill bit smaller than the srew hole and dril it out

i would do what law says, drill it out and then use a nut and bolt combination when re fitting.

Just split the casing.

Steve I really dont know what to do to split it! You can only drill it in if its straight and because of case you CANNOT get a straight shot at it, i tried tapping it at an angle and make a new thread but it wont bite.
I guess i could somehow get access to a soldering iron and some solder but as before, it may need some force to get out and then it wont hold.....
Anyway, pis as requested (previous owner/dealer did this)

extra long drill bit ?

it WONT go in straight so its useless to drill

You could try one of them dremmel things with a small circular cutting disc, the use it to make a slot in the bolt and use a flatheaded screwdriver to remove it?
VickersUK

have to be a fucking small dremel mate :S Im so pissed off cos once this is done I can start reassembling and sticking engine back in frame after another clean but this is a bitch, hwo hard is it to split and reassemble the cases?

you weld onto it and then remove

Maybe you could hammer a small chisel into it, make a slot and undo it with a screwdriver.

Its a bastard when things like this happen and hold you up .... Hope you get it sorted.
I know that feeling - when you're finally getting things done and then that all important bolt slips out your greasy fingers, rolls downhill and plops into a nearby drain ... and you know for a fact its going to take a week to find somewhere that can get you another one :bangwall: Been there, lost that!
Good luck lol

some screw extractors will work if you can get them in

or shear off and make things ten times worse lol

i just can't get up to yours at the moment.

Soldering a screw driver to it is the worst idea iv ever heard of and will not work 100% guaranteed. im an engineer and your best bet is to use an 'easy out' now i now you said you cant drill it but you may be able to drill a small angled hole not too deep but deep enough to tap a few threads. An easy out works but turning it the normal clockwise direction but the tread goes the other way so as you screw it in it will unscrew the bolt. Iv done this myself on my exhaust port when a bolt snapped in it. hope that helps

Easy outs are aparently good when they work but if they snap in the bolt you can say good bye to ever getting it out, dont want to risk it

true, you have to be careful. Only other option is to weld something onto it like a flaxible bendy screw driver thing but that would be a waste of a lot of money

plenty of cheap screwdrivers in tescos and the like........

i am an aprentice engineer so i may be wrong but can you not weld a nut to it and unscrew it with a spanner or socket. alternatively welding on screwdriver may work like mentioned.

why not get a flexible drill shaft thingy
then u need weld tools and brazing rods if im not wrong. do you have the tools tom.... i dont think u do, do you?

Mig welder works a treat put a nut over the top of broken bolt hold with pliers as it get real hot mig the bolt onto the nut the heat through the bolt will free it of from the alloy casing then spanner on the nut and out it comes
If u aint got a mig, get center punch and hammer punch the broken bolt off center then chap it round
schnitzer

the bolt is to small to be undoing with a hammer and chisel . will just end up mullering the cases.best off getting a small nut mig welded onto the remains of the bolt and then unscrewing it.

I have asked my mates dad who runs a small silversmith buisness and he has a welder but its not a mig, n its fukin huge to lol. How big is a mig bit that you use for welding? I guess i could hire it for the day, i jsut really dont wanna split the case if i can avoid it and i want em both out so its not a bodge that could fuck up.
Got my loom yesterday and im missing the earth's from the rear, the neutral light piece that plugs onto right side of casing and im sure a few other bits n pieces, strange cos it seems mint, fucking joke though, anyone got a new shape loom for sale?

a mig welder isnt very big. bout the size of a normal tv
hayabusa
08-04-2005, 03:28 PM
you could hire 1 but can you weld? dont sound like it if you dont know what a mig looks like take it to any garage and ask them to do it should take them about 10 mins dont give them any more than a fiver

migs vary in size depending on the amps a normal tv to me is 42 inch thats a big mig welder lol

Tom for fuck sake i've already said I will sort it. Got my car now so can pick the engine up monday. If your so obsessed with this welding idea my dad has a mig welder at home.
