View Full Version : We Need a Moderator

Well it's time someone got a poll going about this problem.

first off i'd like to say i enjoy the forum and it's often loose and free flowing nature unlike the disjointed iron fist of the 125cc mods, but i've noticed the need for some actual work to be done around here and i'm sure now that the cmp forum is taking off he will be the first to admit there isn't much time to divvy up these days.

we need some important sticky posts. not just the gallery (which btw, is in a mess from ppl chatting on it)

there was some rediculous thread that i actually had to report and ask to be removed the other day ...the bombing one that some racist invaded.

anyway,, im not going to stand here spouting off a list of problems, so instead lets get the solutions flowing.

personally i think we need a mod with more time or at least two that can check over the place on a regular basis. spread the load i say.

agreed on all counts :)
a sticky faq would be helpful and stricter moderation of offensive/racist posts.

most definately, no offense to craig, he's a decent enough guy, and can apply enough sense when moderation is used, but i feel it's just not often enough.
definately time for a full time mod.

now for a poll on who?!

Darxide

i dont think craig should be replaced, just given a helping hand.

i vote speedjunkie:micah: assuming he has enough time to pull himself away from fitting new mods

^ sorry i meant to state that also!
2 heads are better than one eh

i think it would be good to have one stickied post with a series of FAQ q's inside and a separate contribution thread where members can answer them.

The mods can then pick the best reply for each question and fill in the sticky post. (contribution thread can be removed once the faq is complete leaving everything tidy)

:peace:

speedjunkie i think the most important thing right now is to get some full size pics of your bike how it is now!! lol

schnitzer

bet it dont happen tho lol ;)

Craig
07-12-2005, 08:03 AM
Wont happen...

And even if it does it doesnt work. How many times has there been clean up's, ban's etc and all that happens is more shit is posted and people winge and cry about it. No matter how hard you try you cant solve the problem as you have a minority of people who don't change and will always post spam.

However i will openly admit i was thinking of having a clear out on both AF1 & 125cc due to the amount of crap thats getting posted.

It could be worse, it could be like the 50 forum.

If nothing can be done lets just hope that everyone can turn this into a great forum again, like junkie said there's alot of racist posts and alot of pointless bitching going on.

I use to come here and was able to learn how the rs125 works, now it just seems like a small percentage of threads are to do with the rs125. and that bitching has replaced the thing we all love :blah:

Sticky posts would be great, would be able to get many helpful tips etc I know rossi rep done a sticky topic on 125cc forum which was very imformative. Maybe an exhaust thread so all the threads like "is my twin better than a single" :blah: can be all kept to one thread.
Also lots of people here recommend craig to people to get stuff from, so why not put his stock and price list webpage as a sticky??

I know we have a great bunch of people here, we all just need to knuckle down abit

SpikeR

surely he cant do that cuz AF1 have a store linked to the forum and they pay for the forum hosting rite?

Ignite Aprilia
07-12-2005, 08:20 AM
Im sure they would be nice enough? if not he surely would be able to link it in his sig?
Doesnt peasnall have a sticky with a link to his own site? i know its not the same thing......

Craig

They gave me the RS125 section years ago, but i never felt right having my parts list up there. But since the new ones complete i may put it up as it would eliminate a lot of questions, etc...

Going to re-do the FAQ post on 125cc then post it in here too. Also could make a moderation post where people highly what needs moderating or any replies, or simply use the "report post" button more often.

Often enough when you scan read you miss some comments especially if the thread's over 3/4 pages.

I wholly agree we need another mod or 2, not only will it be fairer on craig but it will be better for all forum members.
now i realise this is probably a long way off, so i would suggest for now as a started we need an announcement with all the forum rules, so when someone gets banned/gets their post deleted they wont have any comeback

and maybe it'll help to keep the political and world issues to the rowdy bar!
i noticed the london bombing thing, but what was even worse is that some tryed posting in the 50 forum as well, and i bet it was in every forum section as well.
best keep world politics and news to the rowdy bar, and bike news in it respective place.
what i hate is on the 50 forum we get the 'derbi gpr' and now it the 'XR6'.
I was well surprised today when i felt that i helped a few ppl, i even pulled out my cam and took pics of what i was explainin. i dont see that very often

not really long time people, people who can watch every day.
i am pretty much on every day for about 4 hours at least, more now that im off work for a week.

We do NEED another mod on here, it is getting to the point where people can make offensive threads/posts, and nothing will be done... i know there is a report option but it still requires someone to actually enforce action on these reports, and with Craig being so busy it isnt fair on him to have to concentrate more then his fair share on this forum alone, he has a social life too you know lol.

I think a good candidate would be a mature, member who posts regularly, and as been on a while. I agree speedjunkie could make a good mod, and random for that matter.

I know ive made some bad posts in the past, but tell me one person who hasnt pissed someone off at one time or another on an internet forum, and has been on as long as the regulars have.

hmmmmm, SJ is looking like a favourite here. But does he want to? The fact of the matter is that the mods will never out-number the wankers.

SpikeR
07-12-2005, 04:42 PM
no but they out power them

=UKE= Red
07-12-2005, 05:25 PM
it's not just whether sj wants it, im sure af1 would much rather give it to someone with previous forum mod experience, and it's also a matter of how much time they can put into it

lol.its kinda pointless debating it now as the guy in charge has already said no lol ;)

I totally agree with you all on someone should mod on AF as some of the thread i have seen are rediculous because it just arguing on most posts instead of helping each other out

now i havent got school any more i am on this site for at least 6-8 hours a day as i come on in the morning check what people have wrote for an couple of hours the do what ive got to do and come back on in the afternoon then at night ill be on at say 10 and wont come off till about 4 am but i dont really know how to moniter this site otherwise i would help. Coming on this site is like a must do when i get up and all my mates round my area say that i bum of this site as i enjoy helping people out and getting infomation for my self.

Alot of very good posts with interesting observations of the situation. :plus:

quite flattered i've been mentioned  but as it's been a flat out NO :shooter: from our current mod regarding the offer of help, tiz a bit pointless carrying on down that road. :blah:

besides. i agree with comments that it should be preferably someone with previous experience (tho ive done web design, but never a forum) :cathat: and more importantly the Time available. http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/images/smilies/loser.gif after all ...it's more about the volume of posts than anything else. :bangwall:

everyone knows my opinion on the matter from first post, so all i can say is I hope to see a tangable improvment preferably sooner rather than later. :whiner:

until then, all i can recommend is keep using the "report post" :spankie: and get stuck in with copy&paste for that Sticky Post neal did for 125cc :lover:

cheers to everyone who posted. the poll spoke for itself.

I remember joining the old aprilia forum before the site change...

was never any bullshit back in them days just good freindly help and advice. Now its all repeat posts and crap about anything but aprilia 125's...

There wasn't even a 125 forum specific mod in them days either and there was no trouble so it comes down to more the people visiting the site and what they post not the lack of moderation which is the problem...

I see, so how long has the forum actually been here?

Craig
07-15-2005, 06:14 AM
Well i was 15years and 3months old when i first joined as i'd always wanted an RS50 and decided to re-search up on them before hand to see what to look out for etc... And i'm 19 in September.

The board was even here a good year or so before that, remember the old days where the RS50 forum was the place to be at for tuning, we had Chuck, Micah, Tiba, Dutch, Ares, and loads more people who were seriously into two-stroke tuning.

5 years ago....I was still dreaming of owning a 125 and had only just heard of Aprilia :crybaby:

Sounds like it was a good time, but I was seriously skint back then so I'm glad I wasn't involved as jealousy may have turned me to crime :cathat:
