Ok, now as the thread name suggest lets get together coming Sunday at Red Apple as usual (weather permiting). We had quite a few good rides last year and a very nice ride earlier in April..

Chrman, Vpr80, Rzymek, Hardcharger, BBQChef, ZX6racer, TuonoR6, John Flores, TommyMac, Aprilia101, Knife and anyone I do not know or have not mentioned lets get together on the Aprilia Ride. Cplus if you are not tied up join us for the ride this time. I know you will enjoy it.

Post your replies here and if the weather holds up, we can all enjoy a nice ride

Thanks for the invitation, I'm sure I'd have a blast. Unfortunately, this is a big family weekend around the cplus household. My folks are in from out of state and we'll have a cast of thousands (okay, a couple of dozen) here for a picnic on Sunday.

Thanks again and enjoy the ride!

Why not run down to Summit Point and see Clarkie kick some ass? Oh, I'll be at the back of the pack also. :bangwall: It's only about a 3.5 hour drive from NYC. Hell ride down tonight and camp. I'll be leaving in about 2 hours from Allentown.

Can't make it tomorrow, but how about the 25/26th? Wifey and little one will be out of town so I'm a bachelor that weekend. A full two days of riding are in order for me.

You guys are party poopers :) It seems to me that no one is coming. Without anyone local on the team I wouldn't know where to go. So, here is another suggestion. Lets all try for next Sunday weather permitting. Plan your Sunday early and lets ride. If the weather stays good and we get decent number of people it should be fun.

I don't think I can make it there tomorrow but I would love to do track day over there. Can I book a track day if I am not a member of a given club? How many days in advance do I have to reserve? What are your club rules for bad weather?

Thanks

Definitely do Summit Point. Although my range of tracks is limited, Summit Main was by far the best/most fun I've had. I am a member of Team Pro-Motion, I think Dug206 is too, and they run there. Non-members can ride with them as well. Check out their site - http://www.teampromotion.com/

Tom,

That sounds good. At least its you and me for now. I am sure we can get a few more guys but the next weekend. Unfortunately I will not be able to go on June 26 because its my daughter's birthday and I promissed her to go to Sesame Park. I always keep a promise to my jewel and she knows that and shows me incredible love and respect. So, if next Sunday will be good I would love to get a few more guys for the ride.

I'm out. I just got back from my 10 year college reunion last night. Too much partying sandwiched between a 900+ mile ride. Next week is Father's Day.

I should be able to russle up some bodies from the CF crew for a ride. I can prolly get away with just showing up at my dads for a few so I can be out for most of the day.

Also I am a member of TPM also, I use my TL on the track. I think people would quit riding if they got passed by a futura :peace: I am booked for pocono on june 30th, and am planning to go to summit for the july 17th/18th days.

...just got back from my college reunion too (15 for me). Caught some sweet, empty roads in the Catskills today. It was my first biggish ride on the Mille. Avoided the highways as much as possible and had a blast.

Keep me on the distribution list - I hope we can all hook up sometime this summer. Maybe make it a regular date - like the first Sunday of each month so that we all can schedule it...

I'm no longer with TPM, nothing against them, I went with Champion for a few different reasons. But, mainly, it was that I liked getting in on the ground floor of something. Anyway.......check out this thread for $25 dollars off of Pocono FUSA for Aprilia riders. http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57128

Since we are a new club, our rain policy is not what it is for other clubs. In time we want to make something like that happen. But, since we a new club, we can offer lots of track time without the large crowds of the other clubs. Did I mention Mike Himmelsbach, Rob Lombardi, Mike Smith, and Chris Rich as riding instructors? For us, you do not need to be a member, but, it costs you and aditional $25. Whereas, a Membership runs you $65 and you get all the benies with it. Our web is www.championsportbikeclub.com

Wasnt there some drama when mike left TPM, I remember seeing his name somewhere a few months ago. I am jus tbummed that I wouldnt get the discount since I take my TL on the track. Either way I will look into it. I realy like pocono east and weekday events are better for me with my work schedule anyway.

Cool looks like we have the start of a ride. Where do the LI/NYC guys want to meet, we usualy use the gas station at the beginning of the palisades as a meetpoint. Also any ideas on a tenative route or will we just play it by ear for now.

Well, there was tension there. Most definately, but, when you leave a company to start up something that will be in direct competition you have to expect that happen to some degree. In time it will all work itself out. Anyway, the Aprilia deal was something I brought up. I had bugged Mike about doing something for the ApriliaForum members, since I'm a member of AF. He had said that if I could work it so that other members aren't being penalized that would be fine. So, after thinking of somethings and talking with Martin Eurosport we came up with this idea because Martin is an Aprilia, Ducati, and Triumph dealer. They are flipping the money. They are track enthusiast and want to help get people on the track if they can. They liked the idea of doing it for Aprilia, then Duc and Triumph. The only thing that I asked was to be able to offer this to AF members. They said that they were cool with it, just cap it to 10.

Its a nice start of the week. We got 2 guys (3 including myself) and hopefully will have a few more. In regards to a meeting place.

Aprilia101 lives one highway exit awy from me so I would assume we can meet by my house (actually Mobil gas station by UA Movie Theater) its right on the way and no turn offs. For the guys from Queens and the Long Island I would probably suggest meeting up somewhere by Midtown if you are close to LIE and/or Queensboro Bridge. If Southern State is closer than same place as for Aprilia101.

I am hoping for a decent turnout. We have the whole week to plan this.

tommymac

I live right by the SS and cross island so I usualy head up over the throggs neck and cross bronx to meet guys from the city, its quicer and easier than heading into manhattan.

So far no word from my cf friends but there are some hardcore riders so I am sure we will get a few out with us.

I just checked the weather - should be in the mid 70's this weekend... nice.

I am a member of TPM and Reduc as well. Both clubs have positive as well as negative aspects. Anyone ride with NY Sportsbike Club? I think they do trackdays all over the NE as well.

As I have posted elsewhere - I'll gladly join Championsportbikeclub when they get some weekend dates as it's very difficult for me to take off during the week... Bill H. does all of the work on my bikes and he is good people, so I would bet that his son runs a great organization...

Have a great ride this weekend - be safe & have fun.

I may have to look into this other club as well, my buddies are hardcore loyal to TPM, but I will go with whoever has the dates I can work with. TPM seems like a good organiztion but itts prety much the only one I have dealt with.

I have just booked a whole bunch of dates thru TPM as well as NY Sportbikeclub. NY Sportbike club website is http://www.nysportbikeclub.com.

I got these dates thru TPM
06/30 - Pocono East white group
07/17 - Summit JC white group
08/10 - NHIS white group
08/28 - Pocono East white group
09/15 - Pocono East white group

and NY SBC 07/14, 08/11 and 09/08. I have used TPM last year and was renting their bikes and even leathers (for the 1st 2 rides) and their org seems to be very good. I am hoping NY SBC will be Ok.

In regards to a ride. Lets wait till about Thursday and see who else is coming and we will setup a meeting place.

Sorry I didn't answer the call for the original ride on the 12th - I was in Montreal for the F1 race. It was HOT AS HELL up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 85% sure I can ride on the 19th but 100% for the 26th. Is it caddy for a father to be gone from his family on most of Father's Day (Hence the 85% for 6/19)?

Knife
06-14-2005, 12:31 PM
I dunno.

My family decided that the nicest thing they could do for me on Father's Day would be to LET me ride all day. Something I very rarely get to do.

God bless 'em.

I just spoke with rzemyk and he is also going (his internet was down). Come on people lets get on with it

Yes, Lion, I know. I don't mind the hike AT ALL - believe me!! I remember last year straightlining it down the NYS Thruway with Y2KMille to meet up with you guys in Newburgh, saying to myself "Screw the flattening of the center of my tires, I'll just buy new ones!!!".

I should be in for the 19th, definitely for the 26th!!

I will be up that way on monday and hopefully a few other days next week doing some riding. One of our routes is actualy a good 20 minutes past newburgh but is well worth the trip. One of our guys makes the trip from smithtown. Its a long day but well worth it, plus we usualy break up the ride up there so its not as bad.

No prob, Dug. We'll put it together for the 25th/26th.

Lion, BBQ, and co, why don't we meet up with you NYC/LI folk up near Newburgh after you all start out at the Red Apple part way into your ride a tad later in the morning? Maybe we can all meet at that McDonalds on route 300 in Newburgh like last year around 10:00/10:30ish. What do you think?

Y2KMille is a definite maybe for the 19th and a definite for the 25th/26th. I also got a GSXR guy who is a definite maybe for both.

If I'm going to make this, it's going to take some planning for the day on my part so, I need to know what times you guys are talking about.

If we are intending to be in Newburgh at 10:00, that means I've got to be on the road no later than 8:00 a.m (the same is true for other western LI-ers, FYI).

Is that what we are talking about?

The sooner I have a schedule, the more likely it is that I can actually plan to be able to make it.

Knife - Ill Meet up with you in LI if you want , then we can go to Lion on the belt (although I beleive all of the LI/Brooklyn /Queens guys should meet in 1 spot. also, I'll be on the road about 8:00am.

How does one prepare for a run? (ive never been on one)

Knife
06-15-2005, 12:24 PM
I am not sure yet if I can do this.

In any event, I don't think it makes sense for everyone form LI/Brooklyn and Queens to necessarily all meet int he same spot on LI, as they may have different routes for getting north efficiently.

LI and Eastern Queens can probably meet up at the Bayside marina (right off the Cross Island Pkwy North), as they will all take the Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridge North. But Western Queens/Brooklyn may want to take a different route, like perhaps through the city first or the Triborough or something else.

It would probably make sense for all LI/Eastern Queens folks to meet in Bayside first, have the Brookly/West Queens folks meet somewhere else first and then eventually have everyone in both groups (and Jersey too?) try to hook up at some stop on 95 or whatever Northbound route is chosen.

Just a thought...

Works fo rme, how about meeting on the first gas station on the palisades pkwy then we can take the palisades up to the thruway to get to the red apple if thats the next stop.

Ok, guys this what we have to do. In order to accomodate our fellow members from Albany, we will have to meet at Newburgh, NY at McDonald. (Exit 17 on NY Thruway). I have just checked mapquest and the distance is approximately same for us NY/LI folks and guys from Albany. Guys from LI that think that Throghs Neck Bridge is better should take that. Aprilia101, you should definitely come with me because you are only one exit away from me. Also anyone that lives close to Brooklyn, Queens by Southern State I would recommend coming with me.

We could all meet by the Yankee stadium exit on Deagan Expwy. I would say around 8:15am-8:30am. Its about 45 minutes ride from there to Newburgh.

If you want to be home by 2-3pm than we should start early. I would
recommend around 7:30-7:45am because it will take us NY/LI folks about 1:30-1:45 hours to get to Newburgh without getting tickets. The meeting by McDonald could be anywhere from 9:00 - 9:30am.

Let me know what you guys think about it.
Also, chrman or vpr80 please remind me where is (how many turns after the exit) McDonalds.

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

BBQ Chef - Orange County ??? (Are you in for at least some time?)
Duganc - Chester, NJ
Hardcharger - Westchester (very good possibility, I will confirm on Fri or Sat)

I might have another guy with me as well.

In regards to 06/26 ride I am 100% out because its my daughter's birthday and I promissed my little jewel to take her to Sesame Place, PA.

Elmont prety much is queens, I am about 2 miles from the border by belmont racetrack. If its just the 3 of us leaving from here is it easier to meet you guys out there somewhere or at the bayside marina.

hey Guy's,
I'm in for the morning.
I plan to be out super early and will be carving for a few hours in Dutchess county before we meet in Newburgh.
You guys coming from the north,(Albany), you would like to meet up and bomb our way to Newburgh.
Super sweet roads, NO COPS, you wont be disappointed. BBQ Chef ran it with me last year, he was stoked.
We could meet off the Taconic or Rt # 22 in Columbia county.

Charger, that's perfect for we Albanians because the straight shot down the thruway to Newburgh sucks, although I am always willing to do it for a ride with all the fine Aprilia folk. I just hate flattening the center of my tires.

OK, I am definitely in.

I also have a friend from Kingston meeting us, on his BMW (I don't know which model). Are there going to be any other non-Aprilias there, besides Rzymek?

So, the plan is to meet at the McDonalds just off of exit 17 of the throughway, at about 9:00 - 9:30 right?

tommymac, do you want to try to meet at the Bayside marina off of the Cross Island Northbound and then ride the Throgs Neck/Cross Bronx/GWB/Palisades->NYS Thruway part together? If so, what time? 8:00 a.m.?

Chrman and possibly Y2KMille are coming from Albany and possibly will be hooking up with Hardcharger on the way. BBQ Chef is on (try not to oversleep). BBQ Chef I know you are local but you might be working late the day before (like last time) so do you want me to give you a wake up call? If yes, shoot me a PM with your home number. I only have your restaraunt number. Rzemyk, if feeling, Ok will be there on time (always is).

As of this writting we have 10 confirmed riders. It should be fun. If anyone is not making it or something unexpected comes up give me a call. You can try me on my business number which is on my Website below in my signature (I always get the call because it transfers to my cell.

If you guys want to meet on Palisades than I would recommend about 8am-8:10am at the first gas station. I would recommend that you fill up from the start and than we will refuel in Newburg. I would appreciate all NYC/LI folks to chime in if you want to get together on Palisades, otherwise we will meet in Newburgh

A couple of things:

1) If tommymac and I are planning on meeting in Bayside at 8:00 a.m., there is no way we will make it to the first gas station on the Palisades by 8:10.

2) Is EZPass different for cars and bikes? I do not have EZPass for my bike - but I do have one for my car. I assume they are different (the EZ Pass is "registered" to my car, and the tolls are different for bikes) and I can NOT use my car one on my bike.

Unless someone tells me different, I'll be going through the cash lanes.

TommyMac, EZ Pass for cars will register with one exception. You will be charged car tolls. Otherwise it should be OK. The one that have big "M" charges you motorcycle prices for tolls and without "M" full car price. I actually used one regular while back and it was Ok.

Intresting, I did not know that, so I guess he could bring it if need be, but would be better off just paying the tolls for the MC price.

Post ride report. As you know from another thread that I have just replied to Hardcharger took a bad spill. He is somewhat Ok but he is in the hospital and was Airlifted there. Few broken ribs and punctured lung :bangwall:

The ride started very nice and was going perfectly according to plan. I met Aprilia101 and 7:30 am and then we hooked up with Knife (Lee), Tommymac (Tom), Bill ?? (Vintage GSXR), and Mike ?? (GSXR 750) on Palisades at exactly 8:15am (as I planned). The ride was nice to Newburgh. In Newburg we joined a few more guys Rzemyk (Jan), Vpr80 (Vlad), a few Rzemyk friends, and then Chrman (Chris), Hardcharger (Louis) and then BBQ Chef (Jeff). Knife also invited a friend on BMW K1200LT (I think). All together an excellent turn out of 16 bikes. 9 Aprilias (1 Falco - mine, 1 Tuono - BBQ Chef, 1 Futura - Tommymac :plus:, and the rest a variation of Mille, Mille R, and RSVR). We also had a Ducati 749, a couple of GXSRs (one new and one old), R1, an above mentioned BMW Cruiser, and Kwak. The guy on the kwak took his girl on the ride with him. All I can say this girl has some major balls and iron butt :worship: :plus:

Unfortunately half way thru the ride the whole thing went haywire. I am fine and somewhat pissed. :pissed: :fangs:

The reason I am pissed is because we all got separated. It took me almost 2 weeks to organize this ride.
Here are a few rules that should apply to everyone for the next ride. Please stick with these rules.

I would suggest to anyone interested in the ride in the future be serious about it.
The ride is not 30 minutes. It takes me and the guys from NYC/LI at least 1 hour and a good 80-100 miles just to get there. Also realize that some people (Chrman-Chris, me and Rzemyk and I am sure most of the guys) plan to ride for more than 30 minutes. If you are planning to leave then leave, do not break up the group. :bangwall: We are always happy (at least me) to see another rider in the group but its life and if you have to leave do so quetly
To anyone that wants to lead the group because they know the roads, please realize that the group SHOULD NOT be separeted.
Do not lead a group of 10 or more sport bikes on a very narrow road where we cannot pass cars.
Do not lead the group at 35-45 miles per hour. Personal pride or whatever other emotions one has should not take precedence over the whole bunch of other people. WE RIDE AS A GROUP.
Do not change plans in the middle of the ride. ONE GUY LEADS. We didn't make such a long trip just to have a leasurely ride. (30-40mph) Some extar speed is OK.
If someone cannot keep up we will wait for you.

Actually we had 2 misfortunes on this ride. The biggest on is Hardcharger crash which actually happened on his way home NOT on the actual ride. The smaller mishap but still pretty bad one stricked Y2KMille from Albany. He lost his chain but was able to keep the bike straight up. Definately ruined his day. Sorry Rodney, hopefully we will see you soon.

My apologies to the guys that got separated. Next time should be a lot better just stick with the group.

Did everyone else got home Ok?

My total ride was 315 miles. Somewhat short ride. Usualy I put around 450 - 500 miles.

this is Bill (Red '93 GSX-R). sorry to hear about Hardcharger. :(

that was definitely a sweet ride up to Newburgh, and 44/55 was insane! :)
after the gas station @ 44/55, when the group splintered, Aprilia101 and I ended up going up 209 past 3, since the group that left was out of sight already. we took 213 east to 32 south to New Paltz, then jumped on 87 towards NYC. after the toll around exit 14, he headed to a rest stop and I kept going. he shouldn't have had a problem getting back, going straight down 87.

I also got snagged with the "multiple leaders" thing. :) usually, we ride in groups of maybe 6 tops, so it's clear who's leading and it's easy to tell when someone's not with the group. it was a learning experience for me. overall... it was brief, but definitely a good time! nice meeting you guys.

Good Lord, it isn't bad enough that Rodney now needs a new case half for his motor, but now this thing with Louis!?!? In Rodneys case, at least he was going relatively slow and straight when his chain decided it didn't like sitting on those pointy sprockets and punched a hole in the case.

As for Louis, it's seems so typical that a guy like him rides hard and fast the whole time, enjoying himself and his comrades, then ends up in the trunk of a car on his way home, after the real riding is over. I have all my close calls with cars when going slow, on my way home, etc. Speedy recovery, Louis.

Now, The Ride. I enjoyed most of it, the best part being in Dutchess County where Rodney and I and another met Louis (actually before Newburgh). We need to make this area part of the next ride - beautiful farm country, no cops, hardly any traffic. You just gotta keep an eye out for 'stuff' in the road. The rest was definitely way too disorganized. When we all meet up like this, we need to just hang out for a bit so that the last guys who get to the meeting place have a chance to chat, have a cup of coffee or bite to eat, and just get our heads on straight before we all head out. When Louis and I got there, we had both been riding for 3+ hours, plus the delay for Rodney's chain problem, so it would have been good to take a break. It was way too rushed when we got to McDs. I know some may have been there awhile, but this is the way it is. It's also cool to hang out and meet and talk with you Forum Freaks and check out your bikes, etc. God knows we don't shut up about them on this forum. I recognized Greg (red Honda VFR) as the leader of the group (which was too big) because he led the last ride in this area and did a good job, but he should have stopped when we got split up at a light. He also should have briefed everyone on what general direction we were going, how long he intended this ride to be, what to do if you want to leave (notify someone), checkpoints along the way, etc. These things he could have done during the time we should have spent at McDs.

I couldn't understand why he was going so slow in some areas, maybe he knew about cops there, etc. Definitely need better communication.

The roads were great for the most part, except for where there was traffic (usually in the most flowing, twisting, and enjoyable parts).

Finally, I, Jan, and Greg, were a bit stunned when we found ourselves sitting at the Mobil on 209 saying 'Where did everybody go?'. This is the second ride in a row where I had the whole day to ride, and everone ELSE had to go! WTF??? It was NNNOOOOOON for cripes sakes!!! Thankfully, Greg pointed me to Woodstock, then out 212, 214, etc for my route home after I told him I didn't want to just shoot up the thruway to Albany. 212 and 214 through Phonecia are fantastic - keep in mind for next ride also.

So, that's my take on the ride. Always a pleasure meeting up with yous guys. Looking forward to the next one, but next time, let's acutally take the whole day and ride, and stop for breaks to eat, gas up, chat, etc, you know, like NORMAL PEOPLE DO!!!!!

Vlad, thanks for organizing, you did a great job.

Best to Louis, speedy recovery, dude.

My only complaint was that there were a few folks that were so eager to ride (and ride fast), they didn't want to make sure the group was together or hang and wiat for everyone to get ready - much less just introduce themselves to anyone.

Example: I tried - twice - to introduce myself to Chris "chrman," but each time, people were roaring out of the parking lot, entirely unannounced. Not that HE was being anti-social, but before i could even get to him, we both had to scramble to our bikes to keep up (along with several others that were being left behind).

I didn't actually meet anyone other than the other downstate riders I met earlier in the day and rode up with. By the time we were in Newburgh, very few people had time to meet, chat and get to know each other.

For me, personally, I am interested in meeting people and talking as well as riding some great roads.

Again, BBQChef proved himself to be an extremely affable and very courteous riding buddy/leader.

chrman

I agree, Knife. I wanted to hang in Newburgh for a bit for that very reason: To relax and chat with the fellas, but, as you say, we had no time because everyone else was roaring off.

Next time, we need to relax and be more sociable.

FalcoLion

I guess everyone is in agreement that we should have better planning right before we start the ride. Next time when you see my post for the next ride (entatively July 3 and July 10), please lets get it planned just a little better. Everyone please take all negative points and turn them to positive. I can only tell everyone that every run that I organized last year was awesome but we did have a few less people (8 at most). I will see you guys really soon

Guys, about Sunday ride.Couple thing I would like o point out.First; BE ON TIME.I got to McD 9:00, plenty time to chat, from the pictures I have seen some of us had a chance to talk earlier. We probably did more talking then actual riding as a group.Look at the title of that post, maybe we need have just bs meetings and no riding. The plan was to do little riding with couple short stops like first one, and then nice lunch, but after first hour some of us had diffrent plans and that's why whole mess. Second;Make sure you have gas so 12 people don't have to follow you to the gas station.Third; Pay attention ,so there is no catching up with the rest of the group, most of us did.I was in the front and we were wating for you guys. As for as the speed goes,if we were doing 45/55mph that was it accept to short sprints. One more thing you guys Suck, but I,m looking forward to see You again june 26.Rzemyk

I hope that none of this was directed at me:

" To anyone that wants to lead the group because they know the roads, please realize that the group SHOULD NOT be separeted."

I am very familiar with the good roads throughout the Mid-Hudson and Catskills as this is practically my back yard and spend a fair amount of time out solo scouting them and selecting a good combo of the better roads to share.

" Do not lead a group of 10 or more sport bikes on a very narrow road where we cannot pass cars."

If you are talking about the one road, please notice that I blocked the one a**hole so that we could all get around and then took up sweep.

" Do not lead the group at 35-45 miles per hour. Personal pride or whatever other emotions one has should not take precedence over the whole bunch of other people. WE RIDE AS A GROUP."

At that point we were behind an old geeze in a Cadillac on a road that really made no sense to pass on. My ego doesn't need stroking as I have led rides much larger in the past. If I am leading, my goal is to let everyone have a fun and most importantly safe ride.

" Do not change plans in the middle of the ride. ONE GUY LEADS. We didn't make such a long trip just to have a leasurely ride. (30-40mph) Some extar speed is OK."

I talke to your buddy on the VFR and offered to show him a couple of alternate routes to the main route. I also discusssed plans for after the stop in Kerhonkson. If you don't want to change plans, you must have one to start with first. It is one thing to post a meet spot and another thing to have a whole route planned from the beginning to end. Try www.maps.google.com I used that and planned a 950 mile ride thru NY state a couple of weeks ago on roads that I didn't even know existed, but I had a plan for my ride to begin with.

When you do this again, I suggest that you have a route planned along with a leader and a sweep that knows exactly what the plan is. If the group gets too large, it needs to be split up. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I have seen too many casual get togethers like this turn out to be cluterf*cks in the past. There are definately many roads that I would love to share with you guys in the future If you will have me show you.

Louis, get well soon!

BBQChef, I don't think anyone thinks you were to blame - and if they do, well, they're wrong.

You did a fine job of trying to hold the whole thing together.

For some clarification and to lend some perspective:

Guys, about Sunday ride.Couple thing I would like o point out.First; BE ON TIME.I got to McD 9:00, plenty time to chat, from the pictures I have seen some of us had a chance to talk earlier.
Easily said, especially when you only have to roll out of bed, stick the key in the ignition and roll down the road a few miles. But everyone should realize that many people came a long, long distance to be there. The margin for error on the ETA while trying to meet up with several people AND riding a nominal 1-1/2 hours just to get to a destination some of us have never been tto before should EASILY be 15 minutes (or more).

Second;Make sure you have gas so 12 people don't have to follow you to the gas station.
Again, when some of us have to ride 100 miles or more JUST TO GET THERE, we might need to fuel up, upon arrival. Is that really too much to ask?

Third; Pay attention, so there is no catching up with the rest of the group, most of us did.
Since when does the rule "pay attention" only apply to those in the BACK of the group?

The truth is, the ride fell apart basically because a few IN THE FRONT didn't pay attention to anything except the road in front of them. I was paying attention the ENTIRE time, and that's what happened. I didn't miss any of it.

Thanks for occasionally waiting, I guess, but I eventually decided to hang back with a slower rider and the front of the pack was completely out of sight very quickly. I'm fine with that and I don't care, I had a good time anyway. But it wasn't about the back of the group not paying attention.

I'm not trying to be a dick here, but I think we should all have a bit of perspective.

BBQChef, I don't think anyone thinks you were to blame - and if they do, well, they're wrong.

You did a fine job of trying to hold the whole thing together.

For some clarification and to lend some perspective:

Easily said, especially when you only have to roll out of bed, stick the key in the ignition and roll down the road a few miles. But everyone should realize that many people came a long, long distance to be there. The margin for error on the ETA while trying to meet up with several people AND riding a nominal 1-1/2 hours just to get to a destination some of us have never been tto before should EASILY be 15 minutes (or more).

Again, when some of us have to ride 100 miles or more JUST TO GET THERE, we might need to fuel up, upon arrival. Is that really too much to ask?

Good points, trying to coordinate a bunch of meetpoints always gets difficult, some people are consistently late ( not in this group but I have a few friends who need a good watchLOL) plus we have to factor in the shit happens factor, traffic, breakdowns and run ins with the man can all throw things off. Since no body realy knew the route it was difficult when people started leaving and others were still standing around or in the store. Keeping trackof everyone is always a concern and as Geoff said I always want to make sure the others all have fun on a ride that i lead. I try to run a faster pace( atleast what I can handle) so the faster guys can have fun, and I tell the slower guys to ride their ride and we wait at all intersections etc...

Lee said what I want to hear from people too in that he was going to take it easy and ride his ride thats important because I always stress to not try to keep up when riding with people i havent ridden with before.

Anyway I am game to try it again I think everyone has said their piece and if we break it up into smaller groups with a set route we can all come on here and say what a great ride we had instead of this.

Thanks for posting the pix, Rtype.

I agree with Knife about the need for necessary time waiting for folks coming from far away. Some from nearby can always get there quickly but others coming from hours away obviously have more potential for unforeseen delays, such as Rodney's chain taking a chunk out of his tranny case on our way down from Albany.

What're ya gonna do? These things happen. So the meeting time should have a half-hour of play in it, just as Vlad had made it (900-930). Which was good because Louis and I just made it by 930 - even with Rodney's problem.

Glad to see you back so soon, Louis!! I was stunned to hear what happened to you. Especially since we had so much fun tearing up Dutchess County early that AM. I appreciate you showing me around.

Sorry to hear your bike didn't fare as well as you did. But it's just a bike and can be replaced. Did your wife tell you I called that day?

We'll let you get away with the typos for now, due to your injuries. Hope your back to riding condition asap. Keep us posted.

Hey guys.
Chris has been telling me abut this thread since before the ride date but I couldn't find it, I was looking in the "biker bar".

Louis, I hope you get better quick, sorry to hear about your mishap. One thing I always wanted to do was ride in a helecopter (but not for the reasons you did).

I wish I could have made it down to see you guys again but instead I need a new motor! This sucks because I spent so much time on my bike over the long winter getting it ready for rides like this.

I'm shopping for a motor so if anyone knows about one let me know! Louis?

what can I say Guy's? Thanks for the visit!
At the risk of sounding like a sap I'll keep it short. When Chris called me saturday night and told me taht you guys were planing to stop by I had no idea how much the visit would impact me. All I can say is that I am deeply touched, it really meant alot. It just shows the caliber of the guys we have on the forum. There must have been at least a dozen guy's that showed up. Some I knew some not but it didn't matter all came and wished me a speedy recovery and best wishes.
The bike is up at Clarkies,it's not in bad shape at all considering what happened. I should be well enough to ride in two months and look foward to seeing you guys then. Until then i'll keep in touch via the forum.
If ever any of you guys are in the putnam area and need a pit stop you know where to find me ;)

Thanks to your wife for the hospitality during our short visit. Not only is she generous and kind, but she has a Porsche in the garage sitting next to a Triumph Bonneville and BMW K75!! Gotta love the motorhead girls. Also, you really need to post a pic of your daughter - she IS Shirley Temple with that hair!!

You guys live in a beautiful area and you've got instant twisties the second you pull out of your driveway. Must be nice - I gotta go a few miles before I hit the good stuff.

Hey, the visit was just as therapeutic to me as it was for you. I was stunned to hear that the traffic detour I had to take was for your crash last weekend and I didn't even know. It was good to see you in good condition considering the circumstances. As you guys all must know, we don't need to be lifelong friends to feel concern for a fellow rider you don't know that well. It's a bike thing.

It was awesome that you guys visited Louis. Louis, I appologize for not visiting but I had a prior commtment to my daughter. I knew even before Chris' posting that Louis' wife is a good person from whatever little conversation I had with her before. Louis, I am hoping to see you back in the sadle in a very short 2 months. I will keep in touch.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to join you guys on this trip and looking forward to do the ride on 07/03 or 07/10. Please post who is coming.

Louis,

Glad to be there yesterday. Thanks for the hospitality, and a speedy recovery to you.

Who is that dashing lad on that gorgeous Blue Mille? Chris (Chrman) thinks its French Racing Blue - what does he know...

Get better soon so we all can go thrash on those great roads around you.

Doesn't it LOOK like FRB in photos? And then when you see it in person/bike, it is much darker. This early dementia is getting kinda fun...

Duggan, it was great to meet you. Next time, we'll stop to have lunch and more time to chat. It seems like every time Greg (crazy VFR red head guy) leads the group, we are always rushing around.

Good ride for sure!!
