It is my understanding from my dealer that the Aprilia trunk is installed where the passenger backrest is and that the trunk has a backrest on it. How does the GIVI box attach? Do you remove the std. backrest? Does the GIVI box have a backrest? How do the two compare in size and price?

Givi offers several trunks and a few different backrests that can be attached to them. One site with pictures and prices of them is:

I find the Italian Givi web site better than the giviusa site.

Here is a basic GIVI primer courtesy of Arizona Motorsports:

To mount a GIVI top case on the Aprilia, you will need Givi SR76 or SR76M. The latter does not come with the M5 mounting plate for Monokey cases because it consists of brackets to accept the plate for (usually smaller) Monolock cases.
I have ordered a 76M in hopes that the plate that comes with an Aprilia helmet box will fit on the 76M brackets. From Ebay, I got a Chips Blue box for Scarbeo -- about the same color as my Atlantic Blue Atlantic. presume that the brackets will go from the grab handles back around the back rest.

Thanks for the info. All too complicated for me. I guess I will wait for the Aprilia cases to simplify things. I don't really haul much anyway. No long trips or overnighters. Just a jug of milk and a loaf of bread now and then. My helmet fits under the seat when I want to secure it so I can afford the wait.
Too bad we can't post pics here like on the motorcycle forums I visit. I would like to see an Atlantic all fitted out.

Installed my GIVI 76M rack yesterday. This is my fourth GIVI monorack or top case rack. It is the only one that cannot be removed to put the bike (scooter) back in the condition it was before installation of the rack.
Installation of the SR76 or SR76M requires drilling three large holes in the rear body, specifically in that defined area immediately behind the backrest. If the hole are drilled in exactly the right places (using a supplied paper template) they expose three screws in a steel framework. The screws need to be removed and replaced with longer ones that go through the base of the rack and through tall steel spacers before attaching to those three points.
The SR 76 is not bars like all other monoracks I've had. It is a pedestal made of stamped or folded heavy guage sheet steel. It seems to be powder coated (black).
The Aprilia "New Concept" box I had bought on ebay did not fit the Givi monolock plate as I had hoped. So, I had to substitute the less robust plate that came with the Aprilia top box. I am pleased with the results. Its a good thing -- as I said, it is irreversable.
ps With the 10% discount I get from Garrett Motorworks, the rack cost me $86 with tax. The price of Monolock series top cases varies. The E450 would be a good choice.

Is anyone else pursuing a brake light for their trunk - my dealer took a look at the box and it appears to be all pre set to take a light - he is looking into it for me as more light makes the bike all the more visible - anyone else have any progress on this?
