I apologize up front for all my "silly" questions, but I am a newbie with a stock '03 RS50 and I want to make the best of this beautiful machine! Once I get all my info....I'm getting the kit from Aprilia Forum asap :-)
-What are all the items I will need in a big bore kit?
-Do I need to change my sprockets if I do the big bore?
-Is it ok to leave the stock sprockets on?
-How hard to replace the sprockets if I need to?
-Are the Leo Vince titanium oval pipes any good?
-Do I need to break in the big bore kit the same as a new engine? How?
Thank you all so very much for your advice!
Respectfully,
haupia

This has been answered before...search thru the archives, or...-What are all the items I will need in a big bore kit?
Cylinder kit, carb and manifold, performance clutch, injector oil, premix oil, transmission oil, clutch gasket
-Do I need to change my sprockets if I do the big bore?
no, but you're top speed won't increase much if you don't. It WILL, however, be pretty darn quick. :) -Is it ok to leave the stock sprockets on?
Yes
-How hard to replace the sprockets if I need to?
Very simple. Do it while you have your plastic off.
-Are the Leo Vince titanium oval pipes any good?
Yes, they look really nice, and from what i understand, they perform OK. For top performance, get the Jolly Moto-Do I need to break in the big bore kit the same as a new engine? How?
Yes. after all is complete, you want to temp cycle it several times. Turn it on, let it heat up, turn it off to cool completely down. Do this like 5 or 6 times. The first tank of gas should have a little extra oil in it. Now, ride the bike kinda' easy for the first couple hundred miles or so (not like a moped slow, just don't hammer it.
Enjoy

Thanks Steve. However, what do you mean by the top speed not increasing much if I stick with the stock sprockets? How fast are we talking about....difference between stock and aftermarket with big bore kit? Thanks again!

With the big bore kit and a high-revving pipe like the Jolly Moto, you should be able to achieve about 70mph with the stock gears. Maybe. I believe that the stock bike redlines about 10.5k rpm, but with the big bore kit and the jolly moto pipe it should go to about 13k rpm or more. Stock RS50s do about 60/65 mph. (unless restricted). I am not running a gear for maximum top speed on my bike, but I am getting well over 72mph, more than enough for riding on most streets here in Ohio. I know that with my ratio, 9k rpms gives me 55mph. Doing the ratios, 12k rpm will give me 73mph. Others have taller gearing, but they lack in accelleration. I like to take off quick :)
Good luck!
