View Full Version : Got Most Of The Carbon Fiber I Had Made Today™

I can't remember when but a few months back, I lent my friend my bike for a couple of weeks so he could custom make some moulds for my '01 Mille that I am in the process of converting into an R. Everything except for the air intake induction system has just arrived and the work is incredible.
I compared his work to the original Aprilia CF that's on my '01 R and I have to say that his work is far better. The weaves are smaller, neater and properly aligned vertically and horizontally. He also mentioned that he was able to achieve the same strength as the original fairings only using 3 layers of resin for the carbon fiber so everything is extremely light.
Now, he is making moulds for the Factory.
I opted for a single piece bellypan. I could've had them make it in two but thought that the single piece would be nicer.
Here are some pictures so you guys can see:

would really be interested in a single piece rear especially if the hump had a removeable door (much like the RC51) to still access a little bit of storage (but not the full turtle shell we currently have)

ZdaMan - I am not sure yet how much everything will cost but his educated guess for the entire bike would be less than US$2,500.00 if he uses 3 layers of resin. If he uses 2 layers, which he's still testing, will be cheaper of course.
Monkeyboy - as for weight loss, I think I'll have to do that on my own. I can tell you though, everything is feather light. My educated guess on the weight loss from the original fairings would be about 8 pounds.
osors50 - the mid panels, if I remember correctly are under development right now. I asked for those too but didn't make them a priority.
NitroArgi - I'll get it to you as soon as I know. It shouldn't be long now.
chrman, deefred and Roadracer, - I'm afraid I didn't ask him to make the moulds for those pieces but if you really want them, I don't think it'll be a problem to have the moulds made for those.
vpr80 and raul valdz - they're coming. I promise.
Everyone else - You'll all have answers in 24 hours, I promise.
There are so many other parts I didn't consider doing that many of you wanted. I'll see if I can get him to do more moulds for the other stuff.
Also, if you want to order parts, please email me through this address I just made: carbon@mielinc.com
NOTE: I was warned before by the administrator of this fora about a no advertising rule that I broke before so I don't think I am allowed to post prices. To get all the prices, please just email what parts you're interested in and I'll email them back to you.
I know that the prices of these parts are far cheaper than anywhere else available but since I'm all the way in the Philippines, shipping may be a factor to consider.
Cheers all. :)

I park the bike in my garage that doesn't have a door and I usually just leave the keys in my ignition so any time you want to come and just watch the bike for me, just come. :)
I also just took a comparison shot of Aprilia's OEM carbon fiber and the one I had made. Tell me if you can see a difference:

Definitly the one you made looks better, much tighter weave as you stated ealier in the post......................If only I din't have to send my daughter to college in 17 years, I'd have some for myself!

Thanks for reminding of the college stuff. I was just about to place an order. I hope my daughters know the sacrifices I make for them.:(
They just can't appreciate good carbon fibre.
Definitely good quality work.

I didn't weigh the original Mille bodywork, but the entire c/f bodywork for my race Mille, including the windscreen and fenders was only 6 1/2 lbs!!!!!
Damn, that steak and baked potato (w/sour cream of course) sure tasted good too! :D

Yup... I'm going to paint most of the parts but leave some of the carbon fiber exposed.
You'll see! Everything should be done quite soon. :)

nice, that will look good, i like the raw carbon look here and there, but not the whole bike, are you going to do it sort of like the casoli look?

I'm afraid I don't know what the Casoli look is like. I'm going to paint most of the carbon fiber but not all if it.
Anyway, I fitted the bellypan today to see if would go in properly and not a single problem. On Monday, I'll send in the CF for painting. I went to a motorshow tonight and found a airbrush artist who really works with bikes and he says he doesn't mind doing a sportbike for once. He usually does skulls and bones for Harleys.

Really nice looking stuff. I like the pick near the exhaust. I don't think I've ever seen that part in CF anywhere. That is a great place for it, I've melted two of the stock pieces. I like! :lover:
