If you have an Ohlins 840 with the remote preload for the 99-01 mille could you do me a favor and go peek at the top of the shock and see what the numbers say? I won one in an auction, and it looks different than either the 840 or 841 and it says "AP8402" Please put my mind at ease and tell me that's just an extra number they stamped on there...

The spring numbers would be helpful too, 20Hz.

I'll go and have a look at mine now for you!

I can see a very small stamped number at the top, which to me looks like a s/n, and says with my poor eyesight something, something, 840 something.

My spring says 1093/64/160. There is an Ohlins cheat sheet somewhere in tech tips, which will give you an idea of what the spring is, (length weight etc). mines a 160nM spring, suitable for 100kg+ rider/pillion.

maybe this is off a Factory..do they have remote preload?

The spring corresponds with my numbers, and I would safely say, that you don't need to swap linkages for it. I think it's a legit AP840, not an 01+ model AP841.

The remote preload relates to the Ohlins p/n, the label for that shock is a 46PRCLS. It's exactly what I have on my bike. Except the spring being a 140nM spring is more suitable for 80-90kg riders. It's the std spring they sell with the unit.

Happy riding, with the new setup! :D

Leigh, this resevoir is horizontal, and hangs on a protrusion that comes straight off the shock at a right angle below the top eye. Does your remote resevoir come straight off below the top eye? or does it sort of come off at an upward angle?

that's the main reason I'm concerned all the pics of the 46pcrls on ohlins site show the resevoir in a diff position to this one..

From the top eye the compression damping resovoir on mine goes to the left at right angles to the shock, just below the eye for the top mount.

The remote resovoir comes out to the right and sits connected to a large spindle/cap, does not look like the two locking nuts ala Falco std shock, or RSV-R Ohluns with locking rings.

Hope this helps.

That's the same as mine. Absolutely no probs with fit. Note spring stuff etc above. But yep it'll bolt straight up.
