I'm riding a M reg imported rs125 with a rotax 123 block. I took it on the country roads in practice for a race day. I set up a gps to record all the speeds and such and noticed that the bike would top out at 101 mph and not go any faster. I'm wondering if this is normal and if racing against other 125's with passably more modification would i be at a serious disadvantage.

How fast can U actually get one of these things to go

Im sorry for the stupid arse options.

I cocked up my post.

Just write how fast your rs125 is.

my bikes in the garage but I think it pushes 115 indicated on the speedo

which is what about 108-106 mph realistically ?

the way I look at it thats more than enough to kill me so I'm happy ;)

Also I have a full arrows system, carbon reeds and performance air filter, and I've played with my jets.

So that might explain a little to you

Still like the whole 1 thing more though !!!

Hi

My early RS tops out at an indicated 112mph normally, with a best of 115mph. That is on level ground. Speedo probably overreads by a good 10%. I suspect with higher gearing it would pull a slightly higher top speed (at 115mph it is 750rpm into the red in top, and a long way past peak power)

All the best

ner all rs125 can be sure to indicate at least 100mph on their clocks, if u can only top 95mph out of urs try harder, get ur hed further down and change from 4th to 5th at 12000rpm all the way to sixth in 5th a lone at 12000rpm it will indicate 100mph, it took me ages to get me bike to 100mph i thought it was slow but not really.

I think there must be something wrong with me.. Im out on my Rs125 going down the m20 and i manage to hit an indicated 800mph, and then for some reason i then blink and then im in my bed. It is really weird and i dont know what happens. Can anything tell me what the reason for this is. Cheers.

The only thing which could possibly explain this is that your bike has a slightly unusual shape aerodynamically which creates turbulance behind your bike accelerating the bike to a top speed of approximately 800 MPH. At this point friction with the bike and the air will cause the bike to become charged, at such high speeds and with such a high charge to weight ratio you will begin to travel back in time and will find yourself lying in bed that morning with bike in garage as if that day hadn't happened, like a strange dream i suppose. It happens to me too, a very strange phenomena, and if you try to tell anyone about it they will say you are lying and have just been dreaming, but we know what really happens. Anyone else experience this?

Ive also had my speedo reading 115mph, well into the red zone. Had a mate drive along side me, he said it was registering 110mph in his car. But that was head down powerband cranked up, and after about approx 4hrs it eventually got there, the engine was reading extremely hot, it takes too long to get there.
I also had it read around 90mph with a pillion (mate) onboard tho we did look stupid coming back from Notts with both our heads down :D
I'd advise doing at night as well, cos theres always some pr$%k  in a BMW up your arse otherwise, and i felt a little bit silly begging my bike 1mph faster while he cruises by, not to worry theres a double roundabout approaching soon:p :p :p :p :p :p
Definately a better idea to go for bigger front smaller back spokets if you just want an increased top end.

Hi

On the RS once with a pillion I managed to get an indicated 97mph (early RS), and that is sitting upright. Might get a tad more ducking down, but might loose the pillion so wasnt going to try;)

All the best

i just read this and i have to say it does explain my RS50's 500mph top speed!

Mine does 90... but its got a bigger gearing on the rear so that explains it, good accarlation compared to things like nsr but i gess this is normal as nsr's are lameeeee

To be honest, and this isn't a criticism of you guys who have modded your bikes with bigger carbs, sprocket set ups, exhausts and so on...

I can't work out if its worth all the bother. I mean how much is a bigger carb, V3 reed block (whatever the hell that is), a JL exhaust, all that and more, just to find out the clocks don't actually register the correct speed?

Mines stock de-restricted and will "read" on the clock about 98mph, thats the highest I've had, when I got it in 2002 it did go over the 100 mark but not no more. So I estimate in reality its doing about 92-93mph. Isn't that enough for anyone really, on a 2-stroke 125cc?

PS I have spent a fair bit on mine just to get it to this standard, so I know I'll never get back what I've spent - probably just like everyone else lol ...

For me it isn't about the top speed, its rare that I've got it topped out in 6th anyway. Its geared lower than stock & is going even lower.

Didn't modify it really for more speed, did it because I wanted to. If I bough a 1000 I'd still mod the engine.
