hey guys... with the planned purchase of the bike.. i have got to look at security issues...

now understand.. i live in taiwan.. and so security will be a real issue.. i dont want my bike to disappear within half an hour of leaving it...

firstly > home... ive got an enclosed parking area, but people from the outside can see in... and it has been broken into before and someones scooter got stolen (though the door MAY have been left open - but thats not the point, it could happen again)...
so a) covers? b) locks - big HEAVY hard to get past locks... and c) anything to tie the bike to the ground??
theres a stairway next to where i will put the bike... and i have thought of chaining it to the rails... but a hacksaw should be able to get through those rails in 5 minutes per rail... so that doesnt encourage total confidence

next > work... i plan on getting some kind of cloth cover for the bike.. and it will be parked rather discreetly at work... and its fairly secure, as its fully enclosed and a school (im a kindy  teacher) but i still want that extra bit of security..

lastly > travel... wheel locks? or any other kind of locks? remember, i will need to be able to carry these with the bike... preferably in the trunk if possible, though a backpack may end up being purchased if required...

oh yeah.. and what can i do for an alarm system? i have seen scooters with alarm systems that scream their heads off if the scooter gets moved (even just to make room for more parking).. can i get this for a gear bike?

well what can i do to anchor it? the floor is solid concrete... there's two bare concrete walls, with a few loose items leaning against... then a stairway, with junky stuff under, again - concrete... with metal rails (steel i think)

for total complete security then you would want:

a big noisy bike alarm
a ground anchor to chain it too
a disc lock
a very heavy duty bike chain and lock
a cover for the bike

however, thats gonna be quite expensive, so at the very least make sure you lock it too something solid, such as the railings you mentioned, or buy a ground anchor (a metal devise which you secure to the floor permanatly)
