Got rid of my 03 GSXR 1000. Honestly, this bike handles so much better it is not funny. Not only that, it makes better mid-range power which is what we use on the street. Fantastic!!! Sorry Sloduc, I bought the bike you almost got except for the CA Emissions issue.:(

Got the Factory and a Busa, love them both for different reasons.

If you haven't tried a Factory, do it! Like the guys mentioned, they are so much fun, that you will like it even more, the more you ride it. Just gets better!!!

SHOOT!!!!! Noone here want's to give me a reason not to buy it. What's up with that. Maybe I should go GIXXER forum and ask the same question. Hmmm, very tempting. Well, I better go ahead and order the NERA then. Just kidding.

Thanks guys.

Are you actually comparing the Gixxer to the Factory? Two totally different bikes...

Lets put it this way, I once had a 2001 Gixxer 1K, now I have a 2004 Aprilia Factory...

Italian Car or Japanese Car...get the Italian.

Italian Motorcycle or Japanese Motorcycle...get the Italian

Italian Food or Japanese Food....flip a coin!

I'll give you a reason not to buy the Factory - cuz you want to fit in with all the jap bikes out there and remain mainstream and mediocre. :D

Seriously, don't look for reasons not to buy it cuz you'd be hard pressed to find any particularly from the owners. In my case I have an 03 gixxer 1000 along with the Factory. I enjoy both bikes immensely all for different reasons. But I don't even compare the two because it's apples and oranges.

However the biggest difference that I notice right away when I jump from one bike to the other is handling, pure and simple - the Factory wins hands down no questions asked. I ride a lot of twistys so a great handling bike like the Factory suits me perfectly, it just gives you so much more confidence flicking it through the turns. The gixxer is a completely different story - the handling leaves a lot to be desired. It's adequate at best versus unfreaking believable with the Factory.

What the gixxer lacks in handling it makes up for it in power and then some. It's mind boggling how it can go so fast in such a short distance. It is a pure adrenaline rush, crank the throttle in third and you hang on for dear life, forget red line. You'll scare yourself half to death before you even reach it. And if you're brave enough to push it there don't look down at the speedo cuz you'll crap in your pants. At least I almost did.

If it came down to which bike if I could only own one, I wouldn't even blink an eyelash and I'd go with the Factory. Awesome handling and more useable power on the street. Plus it's a lot sexier.

For those that don't know, Emilio has a Ducati retails business in the SF Bay Area (www.tecmotousa.com). I have noticed that he has been poking around a few websites regarding the Mille for sometime so this could be nothing more than him feeling out the potential business. (If this is what you're doing, Emilio, you're not doing a very good job.)

Archille,

The reason I am not doing a very good job is because we have no desire to make an aftermarket parts for Aprilia. I also did not mean to compare the Factory against GSXR 1000. That was supposed to be a joke. I would rather buy a ZX10R if I wanted to buy an inline 4. I have been converted to a twin motor a long time ago. I am poking around regarding the Mille because I really been thinking of buying one. I could buy another Ducati like the 999S, but I thought I'll give the Aprilia a try because of the $4500.00 difference on the price between the two.

belive me, emilio is not feeling out potential biz. he's been asking me about my aprilia for the past few months. he's just looking to pick up another twin. don't read too much into his questions. he's just a dude trying to figure out if he wants to drop 15-17 grand on a bike.

OK, my bad.

As to your question, there isn't a whole lot to be unhappy about with the new Mille R or Factory. It's a great value when compares to the 999S. The 999S got the exclusivity due to its 996R motor but the Mille Factory wins hand down being the best bang for your bucks.

Personally, I don't have the deficient rear brake/clutch that seems to plaque so many others on this forum, but in its place I have an extremely notchy transmission action. Which has somewhat improved with mileage and PP Tuning rearsets. OEM slipper clutch can certainly release more or slip a bit better for a smoother transition into the apex.

Good luck with your search!

Why didn't you just flipping say that to begin with? :gunner:
Just buy another Ducati, people like you who play games don't deserve an Aprilia. :ban:

Having owned a few Ducs in the past, I really must say I am alot happier with my Factory. Honestly, isnt it amazing how the Ducati's used to be really exotic/mysterious...now you see them everywhere on the road...almost feels like they lost something along the way.

I was thinking about the 999s and even if there was no difference in money...I would again buy the Factory...just because I know how well built these bikes are. And for the fact that it seems like Ducati cant finish an AMA race here in the states...whats that all about?

I owned a 2000 R1 and sold it for the Factory. No questions, I had not even tested an aprilia before. Saw the SP in England in 2000, and told myself that if aprilia ever came to Canada there would be no contest sell the R1. Since receiving my Factory in April, I have not looked back. The aprilia is a much beter bike. Was concerned at first that it was not going to be as fast, was I wrong. The aprilia pulls my fat ass no problem. The aprilia is the way to go. I could sit and talk forever about the Factory, but your are not going to understand untill you ride one....:peace:

Have owned & raced 28 bikes. Don't even have a Factory, just a hot rodded '04 RSV-R.
Have to honestly say; In it's current trim, this is the most potent two wheeled vehicle I've owned!
Completely different than an I-4, but if you're considering a twin, I'd strongly recommend this one!

I can't imagine what could more fun than a monster 620ie, with new synthethic oil and freshly shimmed valves. Yippie. How come I can identify any bike by the tail and none by the headlights? cuz' the little duc is always doggin' em', that's why.

Except . . . I know exactly what a Mille headlight looks like, best bike ever made. . . and worth three monsters, which is just about the price.

I have decided to pull the trigger last Saturday (9-11-04) and picked up a Black Factory. I have not ridden the bike yet so I can't compare it my 996 just yet. Once I'm done with the few mods that I want to do, then I will take her out.
