First the chain, I broke my chain on the start of a race today, now I cannot get the nuetral light to come on but it appears to be in nutral as the front sproket is not turning. Is this simply because there is no chain on it now or do I have a more serious problem?
Now the oil, just wondering if anyone know if Silkolene Comp 2 injector oil can be used as a premix also?
Thanks Chad

thanks on the oil, I was thinking about taking the injector of and just running premix but I bought a case of the injector oil that I do not want to waste.
Ok, I think the nutral light is not coming on because it is not in nuetral, The coutershaft sprocket is not turning no matter what it is in because there is not chain, so of course it dosn,t move when I push the bike. I cant seem to get the bike to shift more than 3 gears, I belive they are 4, 5, and 6. Does this seem normal as I am unable to turn the courtershaft as I am trying to shift. Will this resolve itself when I get the chain? I am worried that I will not get the bike fixed by my next race two weekend from now so am hoping there is nothing wrong other that needed a new chain. Any thoughts? Thanks Chad
I'm not sure what the problem is, but you DO have a problem. The absence of a chain does not affect shifting. If you can't get it to go thru the gears, it's time to go looking inside. The good news is that the tranny is pretty easy to get to & simple to get to the gears, drums, etc.

The neutral light switch is situated just behind the sprocket so the chain will probably have damaged either the switch or the wire. Take the covers off its easy to see the wire going to a black plastic part that is held in with two screws. Most likely the wire though as this is easiest to damage.

I would disagree with the people who say that the gear shift should not be affected. It is possible for the dogs to hit as the gears move together. The gear change is a two stage process. When you click to the next gear, it actually moves just over half way beween gears, and a spring pushes it home, this is to allow the two sets of dogs to slide past each other, until they align correctly.
Without a chain the two sets of dogs can just spin together, without fully engaging - this feels like the gears have jammed (ie you cannot change past this point until the alignment of the dogs has been changed some how).

Thanks, I was thinking it could be something like that but did not have an explaination for why it would be so. I was not planning on taking anything apart until I had put the new chain on and tried that. I recived the chain today so will try to getit working on Fri and will post if this fixes the problem, I sure hope so. Chad

As soon as I turned the countershaft sprocket the shifting worked fine. Chad
