I plan on making at least a track day or perhaps an AHRMA PRoduction
Singles race in 2002, was considering what tires to run on the
2.15x19 front rim and the 3x17 rear rim...

the logical choice for the front is a vintage racing tire made for
the old brit bikes with 19" rims. Avon has a super sticky AM18 in
sprint compound.

the problem is the rear. short of running a tire made for the front
on the rear does anyone know of a stick street/race tire made to fit
the rear of the P^3?

If AVON doesn't have an application for the rear, go with a Metzeler ME-1 in a 130/80-17. You'll never have a traction problem with that tire! Too bad Metzeler no longer offers a Comp K Laser in the 19" front, that would be fantastic on the Peg.

My personal choice for asphault is to use the Michelin T66, they are available as radials. They offer good feedback and both stick great and last well. On a KLR I have drug the pegs on many occasions with this tire....I have also drug the pegs with Cheng Chens but that was an excercise in terror managment.

Another good set would be the Bridgstone BT-45 ,V rated, in a 100/90-19 and 130/90-17. I've run these tires at Willow Springs on several different bikes and have been very happy with the performance. You can run a track day with even the stock Pirelli's, but they will squirm a lot at track speeds. If you're going to be aggressive , you'll have traction problems with any of the " dual- sport " tires.I currently use Metzeler ME 33 front and ME 550 rear, with excellent street results.

hey Micah,

how did your peg go with the drug test? Or did you have to drug the pegs to stop them from freaking out whilst wearing a pair of feng shues?

I have an unused XV1000 cafe racer, with some 17" wheels (gsxr750 front, and rgv250 rear) may give that ago some time in the new year. See if I can 'drug the peg' with those.

Drugging the pegs is of questionable value...

A friend that is an Avon dealer just told me they have a 130 and a 140 am23 in sprint compound available for the rear of a P^3 (both will work on a 3x17 rim) and they also have the 19" am18 I mentioned before. since they are current, they would probably be fresher than any ME1 130's still around from a few years ago.

Yes, using a matched set is preferable,of course. Have a good time!

BTW, the ME-1 is listed in the 2002 Metzeler catalougue as a current model.

I'm lookin' at the 2002 catalougue right now. The 130/80-17 is right there.
