Hello Bikers...

I spend some decent time cruising down some nice country roads in the southern part of Germany this weekend and while cruising I noticed that when I pull my Peg II 1996 medium-to-full throttle there is a strange (high but absolutely not loud) sound coming around 4000-4250 revs and this disappears immediately after 4250 or when I accelerate slowly (I actually only notice the sound when I open my visor of my helmet). My Peg was serviced for the winter just one month ago...

Is this something to bother me or is this a part of the CHARACTER of my Peg?

Greetings,

A Dutch(y) Biker with the same name as the main character of the Simpsons (no not Homer :) )...

Is the sound a ticking or a knocking? or is it a like a screeching sound? I have noticed that my Valve train on my Cube is quite noisey, and I have only 1800 miles on the bike since the engine was gone thru. I again checked valves last night and everything is spot on! Also when the engine is cold I noticed what sounded like piston slap, (I have a cheap helmet so I can hear everything!) but it goes away very quickly 2-3 minutes... I would verify that everything on the bike is tight and not loose, check chain tension because it will make a slapping noise it it is really loose, fairings, brackets, then see if you can locate the sound by having a friend sit on the bike and rev the engine a bit so you can identify where the noise is coming from. You can use a wood dowl rod as a listening device....

Have fun!

Hi Jason,

It is more like a soft screeching sound... I verified last week if all the bolts are still tight and after tightning some loose onces the problem is still present. The strange thing is that it only makes this when driving (fast) but I will try to use the last tip you gave...

Thanks...
