I wanted to remove my upper triple clamp, and noticed that when Aprilia assembled the bike, they use a snap off fastner when attaching the ignition lock to the upper triple clamp. One side has a standard 8mm cap screw, but the other side had a smooth round head with a visable broken area in the center. I could drill/grind the head off, but instead tried a chisel, but the clamp had to be inverted and loose, and the fastener proved too tight. Its obviously an anti-theft deterent, but still one must be able to remove/replace the upper clamp. Any thoughts?

If you just need to remove the triple tree, you can always just unplug the ignition lock. There is a connector about 12 inches down the wire.

the only way I know to get the ignition lock completeky off is to drill out the anti-theft bolt. Remove entire assembly and do this on a drill press.

You can by a tool which is called a REVERSE THREAD STUD / BOLT EXTRACTOR KIT. You drill a pilot hole into the bolt then, twist in the extractor in an anti-clockwise direction. You will also require a engineer's wrench as well. This does require quite a bit of skill, or you can do the above. The kit cost about £8 and the engineer's wrench is also about £8. hope this helps.
