Flying Mythos

After reading up on the resistor in this forum, I decided to locate this resistor and found it exactly where you guys indicated. Not having a replacement resistor, I tried starting the bike with the resistor removed. (infinite resistance) The bike started, but I didn't have the guts to take her out and see how she rides. Maybe someone with more guts or knowledge can tell if this is advisable.
Then, I went on a 1000km trip for a new years bash and halfway through decided to remove the rearward-facing funnel on top of the airbox. WOW!!! what a nice surprise. The bike had a more authoritive sound when opening the throttle, had more power on tap and was immediately lighter on fuel.
The power increase was significant enough to reach top speed marked on the clock. Noted that it was downhill, but I could never get her to full clock on a downhill before, so a definite increase. This is perhaps the cheapest power improving modification you can do. Best thing is impact to the bike is nil, as you can easily replace the funnel if you want to sell your bike again.
Anyone with more tips on improving little snags without spending more than a little bit of time, please post your comments now. It would be interesting to see what other people have experimented with.
