My good friend Chris Capo (forum handle "devulge") was killed in an accident Saturday morning around 10am while riding his RSV4. He was on Joplin Road in Northern Virginia, a popular riding spot. A young driver apparently backed out of a driveway as Chris was coming over a blind crest and they collided. Chris was pronounced dead at the scene. The police said that he was not speeding at the time of the accident.
Chris has three daughters and was an accomplished IT professional with a real passion for motorcycles. He was obsessed with them and used to call me to talk about even minute geometry changes he wanted to make to one of his bikes. Over the years he had to many different motorcycles that I think it would be impossible to list them all here but I think it shows how curious and passionate about bikes he was that after buying and modifying one bike over the course of a few months, he invariably was on the lookout for his next project. He had an accident in 2005 and broke his neck but after healing up he got back into riding with a vengeance. He knew the dangers of riding fast on public roads but his passion for riding was just too strong. Ultimately he was taken by something other than speed.
His friends and family are devastated. He was just 34 years old and had so much life left to live and so many more things to buy for his Ducati 1098 and his Aprilia RSV4. He was always planning ahead, be it in his personal life or in the ways he wanted to change his bikes for the better.
Chris was a committed father to his children and though he had a few rough patches in his personal life, he always tried to do what was best for them. He will be interred at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday morning after a viewing Wednesday evening. God Speed Chris.

Tough to read, I mean it really hits home. Cresting a hill is always a cautious act for me. I once nearly hit a truck head on when a driver lazily started driving in my lane to turn left into a gas station hundreds of yards before the actual turn. A split second and a quick ride through the soft spring grass in the ditch and somehow I kept it upright. Was likely due to carrying a lot of speed. It was not yet my time.
Sorry for your loss and the kids who lost their daddy.

Truly sorry slowroller. Lost an acquaintance the same damn way about 25yrs ago. Flying EMS helos has shown me that bad things happen to good people every day. Cherish your family & friends and never leave them with an unkind word. God Speed.

He joined here a short 4 months ago. During these months, you could see his passion to learn more about the bike, and getting out and enjoying it. Being local to him, we talked a few times over PM about track days and I looked forward to meeting him in person and having another fellow forum member in the pits.
Very sad to hear this, big loss for this community, you, and his family.
RIP Chris

Dude I am very sorry for your loss and to be honest I very much know what you and the family are going through, as I lost my best friend/brother on a motorcycle accident on the 21st Feb this year.
My very deepest condolences to you, your family, and friends of Chris. May he Rest In Peace and may you and the family find happiness once more. Remember the good times and celebrate his life (although short) and remember the great memories.
Time heals all wounds, but you will never truly forget.... :(

It's a true reflection of the awesomeness of this site when I can read of the death of a fellow rider I know only as a member of the forum and yet feel a twinge of pain in my chest.
RIP and condolences to his family and friends

Tragic. I feel for his familly.
But never come up over a blind crest at any sort of speed, as you have no idea what might be over the other side. The car driver had no way of knowing that a bike was approaching.

Thank you all for the replies and the support. Chris would have liked seeing them and knowing that he made an impact on a forum where he had just joined. He really was the most passionate motorcyclist I've ever seen. He delved into every detail of their maintenance and repair and wouldn't rest until each of his bikes was exactly as it should have been. I believe that is why he didn't just go to the track; he needed to ride every day if possible to fill his need for motorcycling and to test out each of the changes he made. In many ways he was an amateur development rider and he wouldn't hesitate to call someone like Dan Kyle to talk about his products and what they would do for his bikes. Chris wasn't a trained mechanic but over the winter of '04 - '05 he and his dad took the motor out of his 2004 ZX-10R because he wanted to learn how to degree cams. He replaced the head gasket with a thinner one to increase compression, then he put in performance cams and degreed them and then created an exhaust system of his liking by combining to different manufacturer systems. The bike made great power and he was really happy with it...until an MV came along. That was him to a T...always looking for the next thing, which is what brought him onto this board.

Very sorry to hear about this, the right words are always difficult to decide on in situations like this. So sorry for his family and friends as they are the ones that have to bear the pain for many years to come.

As a new motorcycle rider I must admit this is very sobering. I feel very sorry for his children, they can't be very old. And I also feel for the young driver of the car. When cars and motorcycles collide, everyone loses. RIP

Couldn't be truer. My best friend and riding bro died of leukemia last year after a very quick year long battle. To watch him grow thinner and weaker towards the end, after what the doctors said was supposed to be remission, was awful for everyone involved. Hate to go with the old cliche but it does seem to fit here, he definitely died doing what he loved. I hope the family can move forward and remember all the things that made him a good person and loving family man.

..... Dedicated to those who lost their lives doing what they enjoyed doing!!!!
Fallen Riders Prayer
Precious Heavenly Father, as I leave this earth today; I thank you for the freedom
of riding everyday. I thank you for the wonderful times I experienced on the road.
Caught in the rain, enjoying the wind, my life could not be sold. Lord help my friends and family know I did as destined to. Riding, clowning, having fun are the things that carried me thru...
I lived the life of a biker, until the day I died a child of God, a friend of all and a man that loved to ride!
RIP Chris

Sorry for your loss. I've watched a colleague lose a battle with cancer and in many ways I do think that this way is better...but it's hard to say that there is anything better about this. I just don't know how his littlest one is going to get by.
