View Full Version : Is the mp3 500 really worth the extra money?
As the title states, I was looking at them and according to the piaggio usa website, there is very little difference in top speed and gas milage between the 400 and the 500 (unless I was reading it wrong).
So other than cosmetic (and the extra 100cc's), is there really any difference that would make it worth the extra money going from the 400 to the 500?
Thanks in advance for your input.

The 500 and 400 engine are the same engine. It is the Master-500 engine restricted down to meet licensing/insurance levels in Europe. There are no mechanical differences between the Beverly-500 vs 400, Scarabeo 500 vs 400, or MP3 500 vs 400.

I had a look at the Piaggio USA site and there appears to be a typo in the Spec. sheet for the 400. The sheet does correctly identify the 400 as being 398.9 cc as compared with 492.7 cc shown for the 500 machine.
However, both sheets show the identical bore and stroke values of 2.8 in X 2.4 in. which would be impossible.
Both are Master engines but of different capacities.

The 250 MP3 is 95# lighter and has more storage capacity under the seat. I have both 250, 400s now. Got the 400 for long distance rides and more power for long hills, passing. If 1 is down the other 1 is available. We also have a Scarabeo 500GT made into a faux trike for the wife.

I think the more $ is worth it for the 500 on looks alone. I had a 250 (before the 500 model came out) and I like the 500 way more. Never rode a 400 to compare that though.
Is thee 400 MP3 Sold in USA ??? and if so why?
