View Full Version : TuneBoy questions from Ohio (US)

I recently purchased an '01 RST in the ultra fast red color:D. I only have 200 miles in the saddle thus far, and I'm thoroughly impressed. Compared to my old ST1100, I can't believe the responsiveness (read: speed) and handling. I find myself getting too deep in corners that used to have to really dive in.

I'm planning on adding Staintunes (more for sound and looks) and am considering a Tuneboy. I haven't noticed any issues with EFI but I haven't put that much time in...yet. I have a couple questions about the TuneBoy and hoping you can help me.

1.) What is their URL?
2.) Where can I get one in the US?
3.) Do you have to have a shop do the install and the config? Can you get a meaningful, usable set-up without a dyno? I realize that a dyno will show how to torque and hp curves look before and after and will enable better tuning, but can you do the job on your own?
4.) To derestrict or not? I realize this is a personal and sometimes performance preference, but is it worth it if the bike (Bella) runs fine as is.

For now my plan is to work one variable at a time. First the Staintunes. Then the derestriction. Then the TuneBoy.

Any input is appreciated. If you live in SW Ohio and want to meet up to ride then let me know!!

Voila . . . . .
<a href="http://members.optushome.com.au/wmcdonal/" target="top">Tuneboy</a>

I think you get them mail order only from Aus, best to ask Wayne the rest, he is well up on them and i think he has maps ready to load for staintunes, but I could be wrong.

Enjoy

Wayne @ tuneboy will sell you the cable & key necessary to use his software. You can install the maps yourself if you're handy with a computer. His maps will work well as is or can be fine tuned with some dyno time.
The removal of the airbox baffle will make a noticible improvement if your 01 bike has the late 01/02 factory map. If it's an early bike make sure the dealer upgrades it before attempting the mods.
I have supplied the Staintunes at a discounted price to a number of Futura owners. If interested contact me by email.

Added info: The Staintunes are shipped with a CD that has the Tuneboy maps. I loaded the new tune and the bike runs superbly! Sounds lovely too!

I purchased a brand new ultra faster (;) ) Silver 2001 Futura derestricted from Lafayette, IN Aprilia distributor (derestriction is standard practice). They remapped to the 2002 map, free of charge, at the 600 mile service. I have recently added the Stantunes. I would wait and see if you need the Tuneboy. I have been getting ~40mpg riding the bike moderately hard. The Stantunes smoothed out the power and I have no complaints on performance across the powerband. My two cents. Spend your money, maybe, on a new hugger. :p

Lots of hugger rumors but no one seems to be producing one for our bikes.
