Is everyone using semi-synthetic oil in the Futura?
I'm using a full 15w-50 by Maxima? Maximum? According to tests run in MCN, Amsoil is actually better, but it's 20w50 and I *think* the extra low temp flowability of the 15w50is more important than the mo' better. If you only started your bike at temps above 50 or 60 F, you might decide the other way.
Trouble with all oils is that unless you have actual test results, it's a crap shoot whether you're getting the most for your dollar.
In the case of semi-synths, there is no standard for how much synth they actually contain--- it could be as little as 10%.

I also use the Motul synthetic 15W-50. MCN test results were high for this oil also. Quite an interesting test - especially noting the different formulations chosen. I was surprised at the spread there. Motul seemed to be lower in Moly than many of the other synthetics, which may be reason that it has been so kind to my clutch. It also ranked quite high in temp stability for the basic stock.

No. I'm just using what the manual calls for.

Yeah, I've had no clutch problems in any of my bikes using the Motul. I've heard some people say it's supper expensive (around $15/qt) but I seem to recall paying about $6-$7/qt, pretty much the same as any other quality motorcycle oil.
I figure if you use a good quality MC oil you probably can't go wrong. You could probably even use el-cheapo supermarket brand (as long as you change it every 3k miles) and the motor will last more than 100,000 miles. Who rides that much anyway?
And if you do you'll probably buy a new bike 1/2 way there anyway!
Ride safe...have fun!

I've got Motrex in mine. Semi syn 15w 50.
My dealer quizzed me when I collected the bike from the first service and said if I put fully synthetic oil in the bike then the heavens would open and a large blunt instrument would rip my still beating heart out and then I'd burn in hell.
Or something like that. He seemed pretty passionate that semi synthetic must be used.

So what are the issues with full syn?
