Hi All, i have seen a few pics of the SXV running number boards with what looks like the dash & ignition key moved to diff places.
Can some one point me to a thread if this has been discussed before, as I cant find the topic on the search function.
I was looking to retain the dash & ignition key, but fit the number board on my 08 sxv.
Thanks.

Looks like a few peeps hav re-located the dash above the clamp bar, just need to know whats involved.
Cheers. KK

i made an aluminium bracket. but don't ask me about it, i really tend to complicate solutions :burnout:
no, i did not drill the upper triple clamp.

cheers,
hershey

I'm interested in doing this too. Any chance you could take some more pics to give an idea about the bracket you made please?

here are some pics.

i wanted the dashboard as far as possible backward and as low as possible.

the position is limited by the triple clamp and the connectorplug.

and, as i said, i often end up in complex solutions...

Where there's a will, there's a way. Nice post and pics! Is that electrical tape holding the number plate "arms" to the fender because of the steeper angle?

thanks.

the tape just covers the gap between the fender struts and the numberplate.

the struts of the 08 model do not really fit to the numberplate and they are shorter than the predecessors.
but they move the numberplate more foreward which helps to get the dashboard behind.

as you can see on the last picture with the ignition lock,
the numberplate is almost parallel with the forkleg

the camera makes the tape more flamboyant,
in reality it's not that noticeable.

Heres a pic of mine. Just cut and drilled some holes in some alu. angle. to mount dash and rocker switch for ignition function.

Nice job too! I just need to get off my butt and start fabricating!

Gotcha! I have electrical tape strategically placed somewhere on mine too. And you're right, it really isn't that noticeable in person.:burnout:

I'll be on the case every evening i get free this week. We have rain all week so might as well. I've had some experience using fibreglass as well (sub enclosures for my car when i was a teen) so i'll try and get the "arms" from the numberboard to reach properly. Pics coming this weekend when done.

If you are running an 08 SXV, this is the reason for the gap/ bad fitting of the number board. You will need the STAY's from the 06/07 SXV. This brings the number board right upto the forks as in "10POINTJAMES" pic. This would mean the dash would be mounted a little higher and closer to the bar clamps.

as i mentioned before i 'm aware of the number board / 08 fenderstay misalignment.

but it helps to get the dash, ignition lock, cable and connector stuff behind the number board.

10pointjames' dashboard mount looks good, as well as the whole bike does!

but instead of him i use more handlebar offset and bar risers. i didn't like the much higher and distant position of the dash (in combination with the correct number board position)

i considered this position too vulnerable.

but with stock handlebar position 10pointjames' solution certainly is the way to go.
