Having owned an RSVR and 7 Ducatis over the years I decided to go for the new RC8. It is painted in Red Bull colours and looks stunning. It rides well and handles great, but, the resale values are not great and I have had a chance to get good money for it.

I have been negotiating with a couple of dealers and am very close to a deal on a new RSV4 which I really like.

My problem is that the dealer is about 200 miles away and the nearest dealer is about 100 miles away. My local dealer who gave up Aprilia this year is trying to sell me a Ducati 1198 saying that he would not trust Aprilias after sales or parts backup and that it is a brand new untried bike that 'could' have problems. He also said that if Aprilia do not get sorted out they will go bust and the bikes value will plummet.

Whether he is just trying to sell me his bike or there is some truth in what he says who knows but I have bought lots of bikes from him and he has ne reason to try and sell me another brand, apart from profit of course !!!

Does everyone think that Aprilia are 'safe', is the backup getting better and is it still worth buying the RSV4 over the 1198.

I had made my decision but this has just got me thinking before I jump in ??

Aprilia is unlikely to go bust with Piaggio's financial backing. They've spent 25 million Euros on development of the bike, so they've done their homework, and the bike should be relatively trouble-free as new bike releases go. I wouldn't worry about resale value - it's not going to be great on ANY 20,000$ bike.

i think ktm are alot moore likley to go bankrupt than aprilia or ducati ,i think they have already had to be bailed out by the austrian goverment this year

My advice is do your homework and speak to a few Aprilia dealer service depts and owners that have used the warranty service of Aprilia Uk and make up your own mind.
Piaggio sacked an awful lot of Aprilia staff and moved over Piaggio people so money is tight everywhere. Italy has strange laws regards bankruptcy of major companies so Piaggio are as safe as most. Aprilia wouldn't have survived the collapse of 04 had those laws and government money not bailed them out.

Most mecahnics at a dealer will give you a straight answer on how good the backup is and not the hyped up sales talk.
