Just thought I would pass this along for anyone interested. I came across this when I was searching for the Ducati BBS. Scroll down and they have an Aprilia BBS too.
(I Just bought a 748 for the track)

Congratulations, I use to own a 748, i loved it. It developed an apetite for rocker arms so she had to go. I recomed you drain the oil as soon as you have a chance, if you see some alloy flakes coming out with the oil chances are you too will have a rocker arm hungry DUCATI.
I had purchased the bike second hand with just 900 miles on it. At the 3000 mile oil change I first noticed the condition. At 6000 miles when it was time for its first valve check my mechanic made the discovery. It cost me money to fix, the second time was at 12000 miles during its second valve check, at that time I had a very good relationship with the shop and they got me a warranty repair. It seems to happen to many 748. I still own a 916 but I realy love my Falco, its so bulletproof. Good luck!

Thanks for the congrats! I have read many an article about the rocker arm problems, and I'm just hoping that my string of good luck with used bikes will continue. The bike has 2000 miles on it...and about 10 hrs as a race bike. The previous owner ran it in CCS and the AMA, so I'm inclined to believe it when he told me it was good to go in the motor department. I do plan on doing a routine service (fluids & filters) when I get it home. Hopefully I won't discover any flakes *fingers crossed*
I have to agree about the Falco too, what a great ride indeed! She's a keeper for sure.

Exducman wrote " my Falco is a bit ugly but more practical" refering to his Ducati. Your busted! can't hide from the "jonside". You're just lucky you mentioned how reliable the Falco is.
