Blue Ridge Parkway going East

I'm thinking about sending my bike to Charlotte, NC, flying up there and cruising around the Blue Ridge Parkway for a few days. I used to live in Boone and know the area a little. Then, I'd plan to head to Topsail Island, NC, just southeast of Jacksonville, NC. My best time fram would be mid-late May, when I could also enjoy the NC beach a bit more.

Does anybody have any recommendations for nice roads heading east from the Blue Ridge Parkway?

Don't know much East but if you have a few days, you could hit Deals Gap & Cherahola Skwy then take the Blue Ridge back east again. Sounds like a nice ride.

But, if you aren't married to going in the spring...


There is always (usually) an Italian Bike Weekend thing held in WV in September.

I always find out about it too late, but I'll be trying to go this year.

The Spring is a nice time of year and I need to be out at the beach in NC anyway for several weeks anway, and I thought it would be cool to have the bike. With all I've read about Deals Gap here, I'll probably try to swing by ther also. I've got a couple buddies that sound like they're up for it also.

I'll probably go the route via Lexington (near Greensboro) since I've got people I can visit there.

I live just a few miles away from the blue ridge parkway (its just up and over the otherside of the mountain I can see to the south of my house). Let me know when you are in the area. I don't know any good roads to the coast, I have only been there once and it was in a cage and we took I40 90% of the way. Here I am on the map (a few miles east of weaverville)

That's true...I've taken 64 to Nagshead and it's a boringass road...flat all the way from Raleigh at least.

I used to live in Boone a long time ago. I need to get to the coast, where I'll be for a few weeks.

I've done the Raleigh to Topsail Island many times in a car and it's pretty boring for a bike, any of several routes. That's why I want to play on the Blue Ridge Parkway beforehand.
