How good are the air ducts
03-09-2003, 12:06 AM
Taking apart the front fairing, I noticed the two air ducts. They seem rather "basic" connecting to the airbox inlet through the frame with a rather "vague" rubber mounting.
I'm wondering if they actually participate in any way in the overall performance or if there's a way to improve it.

Do they provide any "ram-air" type of effect? Would they work better if they actually fitted better (one smooth continuous piece)? Could their shape be changed (size, etc.) to let more air in? What is I took them out all together? Would a little scoop like on the Tuono work better?

Obviously I'm too curious for my own good... any thoughts?

Hey, Frank.
I'd have to think that the ram air is a top end (80 mph plus) benefit. At those speeds and above they probably pressurize the airbox slightly, as most sportbikes do these days. I doubt you'd see any difference around town regardless what mods you make.
The Fighter Kit eliminates them altogether, and I see little difference in performance. I guess if I twisted it "long time" there may be a slight loss. But who cares? I still look cool!
Try sealing them a little better.
