From http://www2.solomoto30.com/noticia.asp?ref=22473

From November, the 6th and up to May, the 30th, Aprilia is selling online their very first RSV4 Factory models with and added bonus. These bikes are said to be numbered models and you can choose your number.

The price is 20.000 euros (taxes?) and to make a reservation for these first units, you've got to visit Aprilia's RSV4 web page, click on italian language, register, fill some questions and you're done.

The price includes a special pack just for the first 150 buyers which includes a circuit test with the Aprilia Racing Team and a VIP pass for one of the two italian races in WSB 2009.

You can also book your Aprilia by phone, dialing the free number 800155655, in working days from 8,30 to 19,00, where you'd get more detailed explanations.

By doing this, Aprilia shoots before BMW, which is also expected to debut in WSBK09. BMW is not expected to start selling his motorbike until spring, just when Aprilia will start selling its RSV4 Corse at around 25.000 euros.

No further news about delivery dates, but HURRY UP!!!

Race version.

Now I knew that much but is it he race version we've seen images of for $25K euros (can't imagine it would be)? Or are we talking something above the Factory with lights or above the Factory sans lights, ie. a track only special?

Now I'm confused. The Corse is only 5k more than the Factory?!?! That's just bizarre.

Why are there no details on this stuff?

Sal, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Thanks... I mean how hard is it for someone at that fucking office to fax us a sheet. Or if they want to be green, email us a spreadsheet. It's ok, we have Excel. It's not big deal.... really.

Didn't Foggy-Petronas do a contest too? ;) :D Hee hee!

The 800 number doesn't work. ??? Digit shy of a full number. Country code issue???

I expect Aprilia will take anyones money. If you want one of the first 150 or any pre-American release model there are some hoops we'll have to jump through first.

For direct import I have determined that, among other issues, the NHTSA will have to make sure the Euro version is road legal in US. Many different countries have different specifications to what is allowed on the road, i.e. speedometers are not required in California, but odometers are required in all states. HP limits etc.

For starters, before importing the manufacturer/owner must:
1) Submit a letter to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) designating an agent for service of process and a letter from the agent accepting the designation if the manufacturer is not located in the United States (49 CFR 551.45).
2) Submit to NHTSA information the agency will need to decipher the manufacturer’s vehicle identification number or “VIN” format not later than 60 days prior to offering the first vehicle for sale in the United States (49 CFR Part 565, “Vehicle Identification Number Requirements”).
3) Submit a letter to NHTSA identifying the manufacturer’s name, address, and the products it manufactures that are subject to the Federal motor vehicle safety standards, not later than 30 days after manufacturing begins (49 CFR Part 566, “Manufacturer Identification”).
4) Permanently affix to the vehicle, in a prescribed location, a certification label meeting the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”

And then: EPA and DOT
Most European engines are required to run cleaner than American engines. Bonus! However, EPA advises importers of motorcycles to obtain a letter from the manufacturer stating it conforms to U.S. standards. It must be brought into compliance before it can clear Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to be legally registered, used and or sold in the U.S. If it is not brought into compliance, it can not remain in the U.S. and it must be exported or destroyed. Get a copy the Automotive Imports Facts Manual or call the EPA import hotline at (734) 214-4100.

Make sure you have valid proof of ownership -- original certificate of title, or a certified copy of the original, and the bill of sale. You must file an CBP entry and the EPA Form 3520-1 and the DOT form HS-7 and Entry Summary document CBP Form 7501. You will need this 7501 form to register the motorcycle. You will be required to pay 1.5% to 2.9% duty, which will be assessed based on the purchase price or blue book value.

Once you have 7501 cert, expect to have some major hassles registering your bike at the local DMV. It has taken me as long as 6 months to get a bike registered for street use. It is unusual to direct import a motorcycle. They have likely never seen it done in your local office. Make sure that you do not unload the motorcycle from its crate until you register it though, or you may have to pay some serious penalties. Contact your local DMV in advance and determine the local procedure. Find a supervisor you think you will be able to work with and use just that one person for every communiqué. Trust me, this is important.

As I learn more, I'll post more, and if I get one of the first 150 this will be the first place I'll post the entire ordeal. And it is certain to be an ordeal to get any pre-american release rsv 4 here. I have been told by several people that Cali may make 180 HP bikes illegal next year. If you get grandfathered in, i.e. Euro RSV4 or 1098r, Desmo etc, than your fine, but 2010 on they may be blocked from entry.

EDIT: just heard an additional 2% fine for high HP for above 700cc engines will apply, but is that just Cali??? An impact fee or something like that???

EDIT2: and the sales tax is due at registration, so another 6-8% for Cali.

do you really think those 150 bikes really exist and will be heading to general consumer hands?? I doubt it. Why so little detailed info then? Why so little hype? Ducati hyped the Desmo internet sale LONG before they went on sale.

If they do exist, aprilia sure found 150 relatively rich buyers in a matter of a few hours with no prior advertising of the internet sale. I think they did just enough to satisfy the homologation for WSBK. They went "on sale" and were then "sold out".

Where did you get this?

At this moment on the RSV4aprilia site it says that only five has been deposited on.
33 has been reserved and there is still 112 bikes to choose from?
Doesn't seem like a huge sell out yet?
Probably because the people want to know what the heck is the RSV4 Corse? :WTF:

We need more info! :soap:

It seems that online bookings for italian RSV-4s have skyrocketed lately (maybe good world superbike results have something to do) and only two out of 150 are left.

All online bookings of the new RSV-4 seem to have been a success and almost none of the 190 bikes are available. Things look good for dealer sales right now. Let's hope for the best!
