hi all,
i'm trying to plan a visit to the donington gp this year but i'm coming from the san francisco bay area and i don't have any experience with that area. i've been to london and some surrounding areas, but that's about all.

my questions are:

where should i stay? as in, is it necessary to stay in town or is it feasible to drive in for the event?

where's a good place to stay?

is motorsport tickets online the best place to get tickets?

how far in advance should i reserve lodging and buy tickets?

are tickets general admission or are seats available? where does the party crowd sit?

any and all info would help.

thanks!
andy

The nearest big city is Nottingham, in Nottinghamshire (home of robin hood)

The track is fair bit away from Donnington village and it not far at all from Nottingham, like 20 minute drive i think. Think there is a Travel Lodge at the Service at the Junction off the Motorway, buts its still a fairway to the track. As for tickets get them ASAP and get to the track early it gets busy! Think you have to pay more for grandstand seats, best is to stand, you can see the start like then leg it down to the crainer curves, the bit where Ukawa totalled his RC211V (god i sound like a bike spotter) in 2002.

If you are going for the week end go a day earlier as on the thursday there is an event called Day of Champions its a fund raising event for Riders for Health, they had Mamola on the ducati putting in some laps and a scooter race with the stars riding were the highlights, good autograph oportunity aswell :D and you can work out where you wanna be to watch the racing on sunday.

Dunno if this site will have list of hotels etc...

i been donington gp the last 3 yrs, get my tickets from www.donington-park.co.uk

ring em up and book in advance, i book like 4 months in advance, but they dont send them out till a week before the event.

also, get there early as u can on race day cos the tailbacks of bikers and cars are MASSIVE, and i mean MASSIVE,

it can take 10 mins to travel 10 metres if u are not early.

most of the hotels and pub B&B's will bve already fully booked for that time of the year but the ones in the city will not be.
