Shame on Aprilia

A new motorcycle film is scheduled to come out in the next few days that has the Aprilia RSV Mille as one of the featured bikes. This film is being produced by the same clowns that gave us such cinematic classics as "The Fast and The Furious." I imagine that many people wouldn't see why this bothers me, because it is just a movie and in the grand sceme of things it is not of great consequence, but I beg to differ.
Aprilia is an Italian motorcycle manufature of the highest order and their committment to racing and developing world class motor bikes speaks for itself. For Aprilia to allow themselves to be associated with a flash and bang pop culture film like this causes Aprilia's world wide image to be cheapened to the mundane and silly.
Aprilia's product in the motorbike market used to have the same exclusivity as the likes of Ducati, Moto Guzzi, and MV agusta. But for Aprilia to allow their flagship bike to be featured in a pop culture turd like this absolutely sickens me, and has a tremendous effect on the quality and prestige that is associated with the Aprilia name.
And for those of you who think I am over reacting to this, just remember this post when some one comes up to you at the petrol station and says, "Hey, That's the same kind of bike that was in that movie ______." and then they giggle at you and walk off.
No folks, people won't recognize your bike as an exclusive Italian world class racer anymore, and no longer will they approach you respectfully to ask "What is that?", they will now recognize your bike as just another motorcycle that was in some unoriginal and overdone action film. Thats right all that exclusivity and racing prestige that you bought into when you spent your hard earned monery for your Aprilia just went down the toilet because the Aprilia marketing department thought they could hock up some sales by allowing their product to be featured in a pig of a movie. Absolutely disgusting.
My next bike was likely going to be an Aprilia RSV Mille, but if Aprilia does too much more of this pop culture mass marketing they will have to do without my future business. But that is okay because Ducati has a wide range of products to offer and their 999R monoposto will never appear in the motorcycle equivalent of "The Fast and The Furious."

You have a point man, I don't think you are over-reacting because all TFATF, BikerBoyz and all these kind of movies do is make our life as riders/sports car drivers harder by making the Cops more aware and attentive. You know what happened after the release of TFATF 1, racing spots have been raided and new laws passed against drag racing. Those movies are trouble for us and ideas for ricers.

Moving on, I must admit I would have preferred for Aprilia not to take part in 'Torque', however the sale of Italian bikes in the USA (exotic) is not doing as well and this seems to be a desperate attempt from Aprilia's side to emerge from the thousands of buzzing Gixxers cruising the streets of USA.

If it makes you feel better, knowing the cheesy type of movie, the poor RSV Mille will be probably air-brushed metallic Purple with white rims, neons and a small, chromed NOS bottle, and knowing the stupidity of the kid at the gas station, he'll still ask you "what kind of bike is that?!"

If you do decide to get a Ducati instead, please do yourself a favor and get a 998S, 998R or 998FE. The 998 has Testastretta technology and the classic looks that only Massimo Tamburini could develop. Please don't dump cash into that obnoxious-looking 999/749 thing with a bread-toaster that they call 'muffler' under the tail. Pierre Terblanche should be sent working for Marvel Comics (hoping he won't ruin their tradition either).

Hi guys,

First of all i must say I DO agree with your points raised. But surely you must realise that at the end of the day and in this modern marketed world this is what companies and so on are turning to for coverage and marketing of their products. This film may also entice more people to start biking and find out how enjoyable it is. I think that you should enjoy watching the film for what it is, ive seen 2 trailers for the film and they look outstanding for some of the race sequences and to see the bike on the big screen like that is surely worth watching and enjoyable. It also has the Marine Technology's jet turbine powered monster. It is your choice whether or not to go and see the film but I will as it will be worth it to see the bike action whether or not the scripting or writing is even any good.

Racing Aprilia, I bought my bike because I liked it's low curb weight and the fact that it was (loosely) derived from what Aprilia has learned from years of racing in the 125cc moto gp series.
Bottom line: In the USA Aprilia is virtually unknown as a motorcycle manufacturer, and I think that putting their best bike in a bad movie could generate bad associations, and actually hurt sales.
I too don't care if I am not welcome at every social event simply because I ride an Aprilia, I'd just much rather prefer that they went about adverstising their products in a different way.
Oh yeah and I am a poser, 'cause I can't take a 90degree corner at more than 21mph!

Even the road bikes, they dont make there own engine, the RS50's motor is out of a scooter, the RS125's motor is out of a go kart and the RS250's motor is out of a RGV250, and there is still a higher spec RGV than that of which the motor came from.

Fair points being made here, the movies do suck, but at the same time they are quite entertaning if you stop being/thinking serious for an hour and a half, Oh and jonny about that ferrari vs supra scene, the ferrari would shit all over the supra, they just put that scene in to make boy racers look big n clever with cars that go faster than super cars, ferraris are works of art, oh yeah and ive driven the supra from the fast and furious, hehehehehehhe *boasts* :p: heres a pic.

Lol naahhh, skylines have been done to death, Leon Greens supra twin turbo is running 1280bhp, that cost him 250 grand on the engine alone. Ferraris are just the same as every other exotic hand made car, yes they all fall apart (aston martins, jags etc) but its owning one which makes them special, there not necessarily 'cars' more like pieces of art you colect and use every now and then :p. And yes that ferrari woul piss all over the supra :p, the fast and furious supra only runs 650bhp, which most ferrais come equipped standard with, plus the ferraris are waaaay down on weight so the power to weight ratio goes to the ferrari aswell, supras are like big clumsy tanks with a jet engine strapped to em, once they fire up they fly, but between gear changes and pulling away they just seem to rev forever without pulling. A stock MR2 will out accelerate a supra with subtle mods which still has twice the power. I have nothing agaisnt supras i love me modded cars, just clearing the air :p, i reckon my 2.0 Turbo corsa will give that fast and furious supra a run for its money hehhehe, 2.0 turbo calibra engine, f28 6 speed box and a shit load more enginemods planned, good old Blitz dump valves :d, at full whack when the pressures released from the manifold those things are louder than a 747 taking off, thats from experience hearing one go off at 180mph in Leons supra :D:D

Now call me a numpty but 0-60 in 5.1 seconds is really fast for a standard car with 280bhp, now your saying that the 600 and odd bhp one from the fast and the furious was not that fast? by almost trebling the power i'd guess about 3 sec 0-60 and a top end of in excess of 200mph is easily possible, never mind a 1200bhp modded one :rambo:

a 2.0 turbo corsa is shit because its an FF setup so will just spin its power away rarther than having 2 big 19 inch rims pishing it along at the back!

I dont even need to make a arguement against ferraris, they just suck =P

Yes racing aprilia, the skyline is the ultimate car, its been banned from most race series for being too prolific, there easily tunable to at least 600bhp, which is when it starts to get expensive :p, theres only one skyline to officially break the 1000bhp mark in the uk and that Andy Barnes sumo power skyline, hundreds of thousands was spent on that car, when say a Viper GtR/s will run a 9.5 second 1/4 on a good day whereas the 1000bhp skylines are barely getting into the 10's, although a few have broke the 9's with around 800bhp, they were r32's aswell. Exotic super cars will always rule over modded cars in most aspects, except the one thats called 'cool' :p, nowt better than a mad modded motor, and im talkin big veilside/ do luck kits, 19's and lary as ya like engines. Tis why i like to mod my vehicles to the max no mater what they are :D

P.s The enzo looks shit because its the closest thing to an F1 car on the road, i never really liked it, but it performs like nothing else, easily managing low 8 sec 1/4 miles, and a top speed of over 220mph with only 660bhp its something else.

And Johnny the top speed of the fast and furious supra is around 175mph

Oh and another thing, ive got a dvd of Ten Of The Best, Leon races managed a 12 sec 1/4 mile as his best, that was when the cars was only running around 780bhp, now hes running in the high 9's with 1280bhp, it just shows hw much power needs to be gained to decrease times by such a feeble amount, But at the end of the day a 417bhp Busa Turbo would kill most things wherever wenever :p (ghost rider comes to mind)

I see both sides to this one.
On one hand you will have every di[pshity kid with no idea what side of a bike to sit on thinking he is an expert on riding cause of a cheezy movie, and he will identify with what a fine piece of machinery you are sitting on as "the opne from that movie"
But on the other hand, I have seen enough previews for this flick to see that it shows the beautifull RSV stomping the living crap out of the gixxer-ridding bad guys. And that to me is at least enough of a victory on the Aprilia pasta-meter for me
I also think it will boost the resale value of these bikes as soon as thousands of stupid kids want to start spending daddys money on them and they get more scarse, so that may be good news to all of you guys that cant get crap for your bike now that the new model RSV has come out.----- just food for thought, Laterz

Hey Dan, about the F&F skyline, I looked at the max power article again and it WAS Craig Liberman's, not Leons, and it WAS 450bhp (with 100bhp nos).;)

Ferrari's are undoubtedly the niceest cars ever made. And Dan's right that supercars will always rule other than in the coolness factor. One day I MUST own an F355 Spider.

Also i must say i aint tuned a real life skyline due to lack of funds, but im the ultimate on GT3 ^_^ Anyways point being, the fastest car you have wont always do the 1/4 fastest, like the escudos pikes peak does about a 12 sec 1/4 in my saved game but when it gets going it really does get going and nothing will keep up with it, then there is all the LM cars with about 1200bhp and so on down the range, but the quickest over the 1/4 is that crappy F1 car but i dont usually include that because its so gay i hate it it aint even a real car!

Will do, the good thing is he told me he bough it very cheap and since he is a mechanic and it's a nice car he bought it. they aint that expensive, you can get em for 15 gran a nice newer R34 but is import and 2nd hand. He bought it for less than half that being messed up.

it's mostly the side, the doors are just gone bent in and they need replacing but apart from that thankfully it didn't bent the main frame of the car which is a good thing :D. I havent seen the car in a while only saw it once and that was about a month ago as he was doing some other cars first, normal cars then he sells them.

Not the skyline though:D, he selling he's VW golf GTI, not the newest shape but keeping he's audi convertible (lime green) nice, pretty new ish but a few years old.

I saw a clip from that movie (Torque) and they pulled one of the most rediculous stunts i've ever seen, it looked retarted. A girl pulls a 12 oclock endo spins it 180 degrees, get this into a f@#$%&* tree and rides the bike down the side of the tree. The stunt director needs to be shot. I can wait till the first squid tries that stunt and breakes their neck. And its on a new Mille,hahahaha. Anyone who pulls that crap on a $20,000 bike deserves to be paralized. Thats why stunters use old GSXR's and CBR's and not Ducati's. I've seen one stunter who used a new Ducati 748 for a video and ran it off the side of the road into a set of pine trees mangleing his ride, he looked like he had died, nauseous and pail white thinking of what a jackass he had been, the single sided swing arm was bent over the left side of the bike fairing, it was a horrible sight. I ride with a stunt team so I know the reality of the situation, you don't ride what you cant afford to lose, most of the bikes used for videos don't even carry insurance. I would rather what a documentary film on a group of real riders and what they go through, rather than a hollywood movie thats produced and directed by people who have never ridden a sport bike in thier lives.

I cant wait for the story on the news or some stupid show like 20/20 to be telling the "horrors" of sport bike riding and showing clips from that movie, haha, that will make me wet my pants. If people could think for themselves half as much as they can complain about things they dont know about, the world would be a better place.
