Well I finally got around to running the Mana demo on the dyno now that it has had it's first service and is ready for high rpm rocking on the roller. I am not 100% sure the tachometer reading was spot on but all runs were done in 6th gear in "sport gear" mode.

The difference between the 2 runs is ONLY the removal of the air filter cover, I have never seen on anything other than HD's that removing the air filter cover can add up to a 10% gain in power or torque?

Now to add the Leo Vince pipe.

So the torque curve flatten out even more and gain, what, about 3 ft lbs of torque. Looks good.
Can't wait to get my hands on one.

10%? I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Looking for a way to eliminate the air cleaner cover.....

Interesting. Thanks Micah, I look forward to the LV results. How much of a difference do you think the Touring mode would be?

ritchj, sounds like the perfect first mod and item for a custom part. Anyone up to the challenge? Maybe a nice vented/screen cover? I'm thinking similar to the billet clutch covers. Of course, 'just taking it off' is cheaper :p:

I do not think rain would mix too well with the "just taking it off approach". As far as a custom free breathing kit goes, I am already pondering it myself, if anyone else is too remember to do what you can to prevent water intrusion.

I agree, it wouldn't. My comment was merely a comparison of costs between a hypothetical full blown custom aftermarket kit and an easy 'take it off' approach ;) But yes, you can't just take it off to expose intake directly to the elements.

Reminds me of building intakes for my trucks. Cold air was needed but the concern was to keep water out, as with any intake. I ran the basic dual inlet at the front of the grill and ran the 4" tubing from each side to the intake housing where the K&N filter was in place. Top end was vastly improved.

Ran that system for years despite internet grumblings of water and dirt being 'too much' and a danger to getting into the engine, especially that K&Ns were filters made by the devil. Reality was, the truck ran like a champ and was very well maintained. I never had trouble. It was a Chevy TBI 350, it was a piece of cake. I had to sell the truck 10yrs later due to the move out here.

I would venture to say a similar system, if the bike isn't too finicky, would work just fine.

The just take it off option made cool sounds, but looks like heck.

Totally agree on the cool dry air part of things, and I'm sure Aprilia thought of this too, and crammed so much other stuff in the way, that the little air intake above the radiator is as much as they could do.....

I am very satisfied with the bike at 1200 miles...

Here are a couple of videos of the Mana on the dyno.

Nothing special to see really but, maybe you guys will get a kick out of it? One run is in Sport Gear locked into 6th gear and the other is in auto mode where the bikes engine and tranny behave like a big scooter...which is not a bad thing when you have over 100 ft/lbs of torque at launch and still close to 100 ft/lbs at 10-15 mph!

This is the auto mode video:

I'll buy one.
What about drilling holes in the lower part of the cover to let in more air?

Fox Fader, you were quite right, which sucks since I spent a lot of time editing a video for the automatic run and the sport gear run, then of course deleted them from the tape and hard drive to free up space after posting what I thought were both videos to youtube. Corrected now...only one Mana dyno video on the tube.

Micah, Thank you for posting your work on the dyno - much appreciated. I am very interested in your graph after the Leo Vince pipe because that is the one easy "immediate" performance change we can get. In addition, the Leo Vince pipe's looks are quite an improvement over the stock pipe, which is quite poor in fit/finish (loses beauty contest to many scooter pipes).

I pulled the air filter cover off this morning and found the air path surprisingly small. The "snorkle' is complicated with bends and diameter changes just to fit in the space. I'm not surprised that taking the cover off allows the bike to make more power.
