I'm thinking of moving within the next 4-6 months....(Cali in particular, but I'm some-what open to other ideas---However--no more snow!!)

I've got some really good roads up here, however the riding season is quite short...

Soo post 'em up!!

You don't wanna move here....the roads are poorly maintained and there are cops everywhere.....and all this talk about good weather...all lies. And insurance is horrible (no lie)
Everyone driving cars don't pay attention and are always talking on cell phones.

the locals may hate me for this, but all you need is this site.

Although its 35 F right now w/ snow, it was 55 last week and probably next week. East Tennessee, north Georgia, NW North Carolina. Roads are generally well maintained. You get all 4 seasons but generally mild. Low taxes (except the TN sales tax, no state income tax though). The police generally don't harass motorcycles unless its deserved. Oh and the roads. The Sothern Appalachians and surrounding areas are full of twisty, turny, well cambered roads. Most are in excellent shape. Some are crowded, some aren't. Friendly people for the most part and good football.:D

try central cali. lots of foothill and mountain roads with tremendous corners and straights. loooong riding season...I rode today in fact. A bit cool, but very tolerable for december. roads are hot in summer---have gone through two rears, a 207 and a 208 since june. Cost of living is reasonable here as well. drawback is heat in summer months. 2 raceways: buttonwillow and willow springs for track days. how could you go wrong????

But, the roads aren't the best for us motorcyclist. Old farts, sugar sand and tourist in rental cars abound. There are a few nice roads in the Brooksville area (just north of Tampa) and other spots around the state. But, nothing like north Georgia, N. Carolina and Tennessee; stoneflylama is right on!

My other vice is sailing and I've always liked living on the coast, so Florida is a place I can enjoy both my addictions year round.

Will be a bit too far for you but around here we have fantastic roads with good surface, curves of all kind, long sweepers, short left/right/left flick curves, mountain roads as in the Alps, very fast highways following the coast line (very fast and technical curves)thousands of sportbikers and not too much policemen. Good weather conditions (only too hot in summer to wear a leathers suit) Probably the best place in Europe to ride.

Move to Red Bluff, California. The town is a total dump (sorry if any of you live there) but Hwy 36 to the coast is the most incredible motorcycle road I have ever ridden. We hit it last summer on the way back from Laguna Seca. I would like to plan a trip next summer just to go to Red Bluff to ride 36 again.

well there is snow here, but we have some awsome roads here in northeastern pa, very twisty, i could go riding every weekend on a different road through the whole season and not ride the same one twice

No sheet. I lived on highway 36 (Carlotta, CA, population 345 at the time) for seven years - and most of my life before that in Redding. 36 is a fun twisty road (299 used to also be a blast), but I wouldn't move there for it.

It'll take a while to get that pasty New England look off you anywhere you go but every time I look at a map of NorCal, I just get a woody.

Sacramento gets hot in the Summer according to the SACBORG boyz but look you got Tahoe to the East...San Fran and wine country to the left...I dunno. Only real estate prices and my extensive tribe here keeps me from Going To California With An Aching In My Heart :D

Absolutely the best roads in the states is WV, then Tn. The crap in NC and Ga is loaded with tourists cops and slow traffic. I've ridden Ca, and most of the Rockies. Yeah good roads are everywhere. But if you want endless turns, switchbacks and no cops goto WV. I do at least one trip there every year just to unwind. Very similar to Europe.

Nor Cal.

May not be perfect. But every summer I manage to find hundreds of miles of winding, low traffic, copless roads. Just not roads with an "I" in front of a number divisible by 5. If I had a choice, I'd consider Sacramento, only becuase it is very centralized to Northern CA riding and camping. Otherwise the Bay Area or Central CA (San Luis Obispo/Pizmo). So Cal is really packed, cops, cages, traffic, and super hot in the summer. Great riding all winter though.

I had the opportunity to move to Denver, Ft Lauderdale or Salt Lake recently, but I couldn't pry myself away from these roads (I did spend serious quality time in all three locales before deciding).

While there are great roads in many places, a NorCal base will give you more options than anywhere in the world, with pretty decent weather. Pashnit adds incredable value to help find more places to ride that are hidden unless you have been there.

The next two best places to live and ride a lot are in the Northern Italian Alps., or in Spain.

The downside to NorCal is that if you buy a Ducati or Aprilia and think you are special - forgetaboutit!

Whatever you do - don't tell any GXSR owners groups....

The roads here in the Pacific Northwest suck, they are all mountainous and hilly with winding turns. Please, by all means, stay away from Washington, and tell everyone else you know to do the same. :crowbar:

Yeah I'm with Twin Pumper, we may have a few good roads in this state but there are a few things to consider while you are making your decision. Like running the gauntlet of SUVs & hell no we are not laid back CA drivers on the way.............then the fires (no disrespect to recent victims) burning on both sides of the road while you are trying to concentrate on the next apex, what about the rock & mud slides that just appear when you are at full lean on your rides after the long cold rainy winter, the summer fog that can drop your body temp enough to affect your vision, the earthquakes (no disrespect to recent victims) that can reshape the landscape & roads you thought you had memorized, the smoke from the fires that change day into night or the heat that on some days can change the profiles of your tires.............just to name a few.
Have you ever considered overseas locations?

J2S is used to New England don't-give-a-shit-I'm-late-for-the-BatMitzvah drivers. NorCal drivers will be right down friendly in comparison. I drove around Boston and people there are terrible drivers AND rude...the worst combination. In Philly at least everybody knows how to drive.

That is incredible. That must have taken some time to set up. It's also cool that you can jump from map to map the direction you want to go. VERY cool indeed.

Wish there was something like that for the northeast...
