Well, it looks like I came out as well as can be expected....

In october, a myopic asshole made a left-turn in front of me. We were both going rather slow (<30) - the timing was just sooooo perfect that I couldn't dodge him. Of course no turn signal or anything, and no intersection there - he was pulling into a convenience store at 1:00 pm to start his daily drinking...

Anyway, finally got a check from the insurance company the other day (his). I had to hassle with them a bit, but they finally valued my 2001 Mille R at $11,000 for being totalled. They subtracted $1500 for me keeping the "wreck", then paid off my bank loan, leaving me about five K to put new parts on her and get her back on the road!

The bike had dual akras & Sato rearsets, but even with those, you guys know how poor the resale value is for Milles, so I'm quitehappy I got 11K... incidentally, that's about how much I paid for it last year :D

Kudos to GeoR for knocking sense into me with dealing with the insurance company....

Damage was all cosmetic except for a bent clip-on, bent rear sub-frame and right toe brake lever. I'll have to live with a scratch in the frame, and one in the swingarm, but since I wasn't planning on selling the bike anyway (for quite awhile, at least), this doesn't bother me too much...

Frank Shockley at Touring Sport BMW in S.C. once again comes though with rapid supply of OEM aprilia parts, now sitting in my garage waiting for me to put them on the bike.... no realy hurry, the roads are still sand & salt covered from what will not be the last snowfall of the season....

Thanks to eveyone else who helped with great advice!

glad to hear you made out alright, i had a (cough cough) slight mishp with my pitbull stand on the right side of my swingarm, so i'm living with that one also, i have one more year left on my 01 before she is gone, or maybe i'll keep it for a track bike, too early to think about it

Excellent news ! You got your loan paid off and you still have the bike, what could be better :D
Don't spend all the cash leftover on the bike, only what's really needed, being a salvaged bike means that will always have a street value much lower than the average retail (under $5k IMO) but in the meanwhile I can't imagine riding a nicer bike for the money.
Congrats!!

Sweet, make it into a track bike and put the $5k down on a new '04 Factory!
