I'm having trouble finding one.

Anyone know where I could get a 46 tooth rear sprocket.
It would be the same as for the Stock 525 Chain Size. Would fit all 04-08 RSVR, '98-'03 Mille, all '00-'03 Falco, '06-'08 Tuono '08-'09 Shiver, and all '02-'05 Tuono.

Cheers.

Did you try AF1? They seem to have about everything related to aprlia.

Makka,
I have been looking here in the US as well. I can find the 39 thru 45. But no luck so far on the 46. I still have a few more places to check. If I find something I will let you know.

sprocketspecialists.com

They have been making high quality aluminum sprockets for about everything on 2 wheels since the early 70's.

I still use them today.

Their part number for what you want would be 948-46
for their basic aluminum model, which is quite nice looking too.
(Check their online catalog for cosmetic upgrades.)

They will make this rear sprocket with anywhere from 32 to 66 teeth.

Ciao.

Thanks a lot guys.
I'll try that.
I e-mailed AF1 and they don't have anything but were helpful with suggestions too.
The dealer is looking too but said he would phone if he found anything so I guess he hasn't. (5.40pm here. Just about to tuck into some wine)

Have you tried Renthal or B&C express?

http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/cgi-bin/bc_page.pl?cat=SPR-ROAD

It seems that they list a 45 tooth sprocket for a 525 chain, but only a 46 tooth for a 520 chain (about a millimetre too narrow).

I suspect that there is not much demand for a 46 tooth sprocket for RSV/Tuono.

I would try calling them direct, or alternatively http://www.supersprox.com/ (who appear to list a 46 tooth sprocket but are out of stock - maybe they never have stock) if you have not tried them yet.

Ta Burty,

keep it a secret as I don't want everyone else to order them and then none left for me but sprocketspecialists.com seem to have them.

I have to wait until tomorrow to order as the shop may have found something here.

I just realized in reading this, so the shiver has a 525 chain? I hadn't noticed.

So the good news is that Supersprox will be making their tri-metal stealth sprocket in 46 for our bike "within two weeks" for £44 +postage.
I got a mail from Aneta Pasenova!

It looks good and will suit your bike perfectly Dan.
If more people contact her/them about it perhaps they will do it quicker.

Talon actually have a red one and a gold one in stock part No TR372525746 it costs £20.25p +vat (£23.79).

Sprocketspecalists have them on their site but look like they only post to the US.
I've e-mailed them.

Mak, if you want you can pm me and have sprocketspecialists send the sprocket to me and I can forward by airmail. I'm in georgia.

Thanks Chris.
I'm gonna go with the supersprox one as it seems it will last much longer and sap less power.
Just have to be a bit patient.

I do like the look of the Supersprox sprockets as have used them many times.

I have a Talon one on my Shiver, I might change it again when and if a front
sprocket becomes available.

How many teeth Dan?

44, I changed it as I thought the original one looked cheap, You know what I'm like though. I want to change the front too but they are not available yet as you know.

It does. As does the chain.

I agree Burt and I have recently bought a DID gold chain but I'm yet to have it fitted, I plan to get the dealer to fit it when they have it in for the tri map and front sprocket.

I used to do all my chains myself on my Motocross bikes but I'd rather an expert
did my Shiver chain.

The criticized the Dors's rear sprocket in the PB magazine, they also said it looked cheap, I'm pretty sure other than the number of teeth it's the same
style sprocket as the Shiver.

Did you notice any change in acceleration Dan?
Has it affected your speedo reading?

perfect

I don't think so to be honest Makka, I know going down a tooth on the front
will make a difference.

Down one on the front is equivalent to up three at the back.
I have been advised that 16 is as low as you want to go on the front.
15 at the very outside.
I figure two up on the back is a good compromise.
Supersprox seem very good. They have sent me two e-mails in reply to my one and are organising a sprocket to come to me one way or another.

His speedo reading is now off 2.3%

Thanks SD
So with 2 teeth up on the rear does that mean mine would be off by 4.6%?

burty
05-13-2008, 05:04 AM
Yes.

Two extra teeth on the rear means your speedo will read 104.54% of the true reading (assuming the original reading is the true reading)

No don't think so!

I haven't changed anything, still running a 44 on the back.

been coveting them since I read this at the AF1 Online Store:

"This Marchesini forged aluminum wheel pair represents the most weight that you can remove from your Aprilia without sacrificing streetability.

This wheel set will improve acceleration, feel, handling, and slightly improve braking performance."

How much are we talking for the wheels? I think more than anything I want to shed weight from the bike.

For the aluminium ones AF1 quotes $2K (http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=3133).

This site (http://www.biketorqueracing.co.uk/chassis_marchesini_wheels.asp)in the UK quotes ~£900/£1,100 for set with one/double-sided rear.

Saves about 4Kg as far as I can work out. Magnesium wheels cost more and save more but I don't know how practical they are for street use.

Best first step to shed weight is to replace the big lump of an exhaust. Leo Vince carbons and de-cat mid-pipe will save you nearly 9Kg and add about 5HP.

Thank you, sir.

I'm holding off the exhaust until I can see the Akra pipes - should theoretically be in the UK within a month now...

And I wouldn't wait.
How could they be nicer than the Leo's?
And they will no doubt cost a LOT more.
