My partner has asked me if any of the Shiver is made in China.
I said I'd ask the forum.
What do you guys think?

No idea. How would you know anyway?
I suspect most bikes have some parts that are made in China.

certainly not.
maybe some parts but the engine and the main structure is build in the factory in Italy.
i wonder though what difference does it make if they were made in china? i I mean what if Chinese instead of Italian hands assembled a bike with Italian parts? or would it be better if Italian hands assembled a bike with Chinese parts? i prefer the first to be honest as long as these hands are trained

If it's got HIGH LEAD Content, then it's made in China.
If not, then the Italians made it. :kidding:

The long and short for it for me is
Chinese Bikes = Bad
Japanese Bikes = Good

It doesn't matter where any of the components are made. What does matter is the spec of the components the quality control and the management of any outsourcing contracts.

there are China-made parts on just about every vehicle out there.....Japanese brands included.

My partner is a teacher and her students asked her.
I don't particularly care (2 year warranty, I love it)
But anything made in China has to be suspicious as they seem to be very unethical when it comes to pretty much anything so probably wouldn't have a problem with making the crankcases out of the cheapest metal they think they could get away with (for example).

That's why the spec has to be water tight and the management of the contract done properly.
Anything dodgy ultimately reflects badly on the vehicle manufacturer anyway, so it's in their interest to manage it correctly.
Of course people might have political reasons not to buy products where parts are made in China, but I would be surprised if any bike didn't have some parts that were made there.

dunno bout the shiver, but on my RS loads of trivial parts have 'made in italy' on them...
italy still has a large domestic manufacturing sector and although they are moving more and more to making stuff in china they are way behind most countries.
when i go to trade fairs in italy, the number of Italian companies outsourcing their production to china are growing every year, but besides from the companies selling top quality items that you expect to be made in italy, you still see companies selling plastic utensils and silly crap that's being made in italy when it could be made in china for next to nothing...
strong trade unions is 1 reason
Some of the best engines out there are made in China, it all has to do with the quality control and meeting MFR guidelines. I don't think motorcycles have the same type of "made in" sign as cars, but I'm sure there are several components from China.
I have heard that Benelli's engines are designed in Italy but manufactured and assembled in China, but that's because their parent co. is Chinese.
