I went to start my 04 rsv1000 after sitting for about a week after riding it in very cold temp, now the battery is fine reading about 12v and when i goto start it, the bike wont even make any attempt to start as if the battery was dead, any suggestions......

Mine used to show 12v when it was close to dying (5-6 ignition switches to get it on).

Are you sure you haven't got anything other than a weaker understimulating battery? Does your engine try to turn over at all?

Gummed spark plugs, loose contacts/wet etc come to mind, but it's probably something simple....

try putting the battery on a tender overnight and then try starting it in the morning...

do a load test on the batt. if you don't have a load tester take it to local auto store and have it tested [bring batt only not the bike] and keep in mind volts and amps are two diffent things.you can have 12v reading on your batt and only2 amps without amps you have nothing.also check connections for corrosion and "tightness" as well as the fluid level in batt.if all that is good then the fun begins.good luck and keep us posted

what they said test battery, charge battery, check connections amd for corrosion.
i had similar problem and a new starter relay was the fix, so check that too.

you can get the ape one or aftermarket one from af1

It has happened to others so make sure it is not in gear.
If it is not in gear, battery is good, check out the starter relay since they have a history of going bad.

The starter relay could be suspect, have it checked.

if the battery's fine but you've had it out, give the tip over switch a shake and re-try it.

Its under the passenger seat. The trunk. Black box with two wires, I have mine filled with 90 weight oil. Bumpy rides can kick it on suddenly.
