As you can see on the picture below, the linkpipes of the exhaust get rusty pretty quick in cold, wet Dutch weather. This was after only 1000km. How can you prevent this, besides putting a full titanium exhaust on it (which I haven't seen yet, by the way).

Picture isn't that clear, since it was taken to show the damage on the bike after my crash...

If the picture doesn't work, just click this link

No idea but mine is tarnished already on 200 miles run only.

I considered a belly pan so that much of it is not on display but, the only one I've seen is the skidmarx one and I'm not convinced I like it. Anyway it won't cover it all.

Doesn't look like rust from here. Isn't the Shiver's exhaust system stainless like all Aprilia's? I thought it was.
Different grades of stainless turn brown faster than others. The discoloring is caused by the high temperature. The higher the temp, the faster it turns brown. So headers (voorbochten for Grandia) get it first. And lower grades stainless steel turn brown faster.
You can make them shiny again by using the acid welders use to clean stainless steel welds.

But IMHO you'll be better off just getting a belly pan when and if available.
