Took the Fut to the Houston motorcycle show today (12 mile ride) came back and parked in the garage.
Went to dinner (cage ride) and as i left through the garage I smelled gasoline. Came back two hours later, still smells of gasoline.

Took seat off, no obvious drips. None visible on the floor either.

Have had connector recall taken care off.

What else?

The plastic quick disconnect under the tank is probably cracked. This is a common problem and a quick fix with the brass type. Don't ride it till you fix it.

It is located on the shifter side of the bike and is white in color. Hard to miss this one especially if it is pouring out gas.

could you have one of the bikes with the tubing inside the tank that cracks? do a search

couple other places to look - the banjo bolt at the fuel pump plate and that fuel pump plate where it seals to the tank.

Are you sure it's not just venting thru the cap? If it's leaking underneath, your nose up close can tell.

It's possible to have a slow leak underneath in back and have the gasoline evaporate from the heat of the rear cylinder. Sometimes you have to look for dried residue, not wetness. rick

When I bought the bike I asked the dealer who had it at the time, to replace the qd. They did the rear ones, and later I had the guys at AF-1 do the complete package.

I did notice a spot, about 3 inches of wet, 'dry' stuff underneath, but it did not smell of gas.

I must be honest, I am not knowledgeable in mechanics. wish I was.

- A) would it be safe to ride the bike to AF-1 (3 hour ride)
- b) this only seems to happen after I ride it, but I have only been taking about 10 mile rides.

How much gas is in the tank?

I tend to agree with AprilIan that you may have fallen victim to the tubing issue. If the fuel level is somewhat low and the tubing cracked at the kink (highest point), you may not get much leakage. If this is the case, it would be very dangerous to top off.

My tank is currently off and disassembled and my tubing doesn't look so hot. It's in the process of being eliminated.

When you say you found a spot underneath, where exactly? Front of tank? Rear?

Well

Ran a test run from here to church (about 5 miles), Came back home and laid a car mat underneath and paper towels.

20 minutes later, no detectable drip, but it does smell like gas in the garage.

Is it the smell of unburned fuel in the exhaust? My bike was parked inside last winter. When I initially brought it inside there were some strong fuel odors. Of course, I had just ridden it for 2/.-3 hrs, but if I remember correctly the A/F ratio was a little on the rich side at that time.

hmmm

my wife says it always smells like that after I ride. I am thinking it is something new. It does smell like unburned fuel in the garage, but the sniffing around the gas tank area is neg, except a bit from the fuel cap.

Will check around the exhaust.

Thanks.

I have the same issue. I don't know how many times I took a tank off to see where is it coming from. I'm runnig out of ideas so if you find it let me know. I do think it is a fuel in the exhaust pipe. My bike runs rich and 05 map did not help to cure it. Smell is the same if I ride few minutes or couple hours. I'll be winterizing bike this month so I plan to check more places for possible source of that odor.

Will do. Will prob take it to AF1 early next year, since there is some other work needed. Will have to just it the rest of this year.

I had a fuel line pull off of my dual-sport early one morning...(say 2:00a.m.). The gas smell was so bad, it woke me up! Nothing like cleaning up a couple gallons of gas in the wee hours.

I am glad I am not the only one.

I have the new metal QD and new fuel lines. No external leakage at all. But after a good ride it smells for at least a day. Yes it also runs rich.

I will stay tuned for further instruction.
