Hi, I just joined. I have had a scooter for awhile and a few 70cc kits. My Polini Corsa cracked by the boost port and totaled a $200 cylinder. Are the Athena Cylinders any good?
Here is a pic of the new front that I just got. I hated the bugeyes!
Thanks,

What about a two fast for race cylinder?

are you up for some major modifications to your crankcase? this is not a bolt on kit, i know, i have one & i race it.

:confused:Out side of changing the crankshaft itself, what more do I need to do? The fact that you mention non-bolt on, makes me consider something else just because my scoot is a Limited Edition, and to be able to revert back to stock would be nice.
Mod, to be honest with you, I'm a total Newb at these Scoot engines but I'm looking to make this baby rock, and get it right the first time. Fast, enough xlr8n for wheelies, and not altogether deafining if possible. I got about 600 miles on this scoot, and now it's dormant for winter. (Good time for Mods).
I'm no dummy mechanically, but I do need some sound advice from someone so that I get a good set up. I hope not to spend alot of cash experimenting, but to get some help from guys with your experience.:worship:
My buddies all run the Moped Hospital Setups, but I've been spending hours reading about setups, parts, variators, cylinders, PIPES, clutches, carbs, etc. trying to learn as much as I can. Seems there are better performance parts out there besides a Moped Hospital Racing (power pack). http://www.mhr-usa.com/racing/p-power1.html
My Scoot was brand new when I got it, no miles, last one left in North America. I got super lucky to find it. It's a 2002.
The scoot is sittin in my basement, for winter, on a stand waiting for me to make up my mind on what I want to do and then order the parts.
So, after all that, what I'm trying to say, is that I NEED HELP to set this thing up right. If you got the time, or any time, I could use some sound advice.
Thanks

what do you want from your scooter, how much speed are you shooting for? 70, 80+mph? do you want a reliable & streetable race engine setup? how much are you willing to spend? i can give you recommendations on what parts to get depending on your requirements but the main this is a fast & reliable setup is always a bit expensive but the returns are well worth the endeavor.

Yeah, that about says it: A fast yet reliable street racer! As far as dough goes, you know, everybody wants to do it as cheap as possible, but I'm thinking something like $800 to $1000 USD. Hopefully less.
But that's what I was thinking, like 1k at the worst. Not including my time or anyones time in labor.
Is that too CHEAP?
My buddies set them selves up 3 years ago for $500 but again that was the Moped Hosp kit, and 3 years ago.
I want it to be nice, if you know what I mean, and respected too.
For Example here's a pic of my Jeep, that I set up over the last several years:
It's nice, it performs awesome in the rocks and trails, and it's still reliable.
Most of this work I did myself.

1000 bucks? i think that will not be enough for what i have in mind, on my dragracing scooter i splurged more than $3500 just for the engine alone & this can be used for the street provided you gas it up with at least 100 octane gas.
most of the stuff i have in mind can only be bought from europe but there are some importers of Malossi, Polini, Metrakit tuning parts there in the US i suggest you start finding it there.
Polini Evolution 2 LC 70cc cylinder kit
Malossi RHQ pin12 crankshaft or Kundo Supersport pin12 crankshaft or Metrakit ProRace pin12 crankshaft
Metrakit Prorace crankshaft bearing kit
Polini Evolution 2 exhaust pipe
DellOrto PHBG21 carb & some spare jets
Polini airbox filter 90 degree (new design)
Moto Tassinari VForce3 reedvalve or Malossi VL14 reedvalve (Minarelli)
Malossi Overrange kit & lots of spare rollers
Malossi Delta clutch
MHR clutchsprings for Delta clutch
Malossi Wing bell
Polini or Malossi 13/44 gear kit
this setup can do 75 to 80mph if you tune the engine correctly, use only 95 octane gas minimum to keep it out of detonation, use a cold long thread plug like an NGK BR9EIX or Denso IW27, set the gap to 0.45mm (.018").
when ordering make sure to get a spare piston kit & a ring so that you have something in reserve just in case. my best advice is gather all the parts first then bolt it on in one go.

Hey Mod,
I just wnated to quickly say thanks for taking the time to respond so thoroughly. Being it's Christmas and all. I have some family stuff to do right now but will comment more later.
Sounds like a pretty respectible parts list and it doesn't scare me yet.
I was thinking about all the different brands out there for say cylinders, and carbs and especially pipes and wondering "How do you know what's best?"
More later,
Thanks again,
Todd

i have been a 2stroke tuner for the last 10 years & have won numerous championships in different classes, you just got to trust me on this stuff, Malossi/Polini/Metrakit/TCR/2Fast4Race/Yasuni/Keihin/DellOrto are the professional scooter racers & tuners choice in Europe & Asia, Technigas, Arreche/Airsal/Athena are just 2nd or 3rd tier brands, cheap price = cheap quality.

I totally agree with you just from what I've read. But you knew that when I questioned that Airsal, Arreche, Technigas set up, Blagh!
I was just wondering stuff like: why not a Metrakit, or Malossi pipe or cylinder, or why not a Polini Variator? You know, what made you choose one over the other? If the answer is just "experience", that's good enough for me
Polini Evolution 2 LC 70cc cylinder kit

Two things I'm sure of:
1.Europe is the place to look for quality parts and knowledge. Simply because it's been around longer there.
2. Mod Overrev knows what he's talking about.

Polini Evo2 pipe still clears the stand under the engine & teh this pipe makes power at more accessible rpms & peaks out at 13500rpm with a broad powerband, this is perfect for your application. Malossi Team pipe is crap & the flange is not sized for the exhaust port outlet of the Evo2 kit, Metrakit Prorace pipe makes more power than Evo2 but at much higher rpms & it peaks out at 14000rpm but the powerband is much narrower. if you don't mind removing the stand & making more power at higher revs then buy the Prorace.
i have tested both Polini & Malossi transmissions & they are both excellent & you can't go wrong with either however Polini transmission costs more than Malossi (i don't know why) but i have been using Malossi transmissions for most of races. Malossi will last longer b'coz the front pulley surface is coated in hard nickel, Polini front pulley surface is bare aluminum so it is much more prone to wear. Malossi kevlar belts are much more durable than Polini kevlar belts & this comes from my experience & testimonials of other tuners.
some parts you can buy here to save money on shipping & taxes, gear kit, Kundo crank, Malossi Overrange transmission, VForce3 reedcage, Polini Evo2 cylinder kit & pipe, PHBG21 carb etc. the euro is much stronger now than the dollar so unless there is no other way to gather parts domestically then you go international.

Thanks for the detail on this one cuz it's those little details about different parts that can make all the difference.:) I'm going with the polini pipe

I've often looked at the Polinin transmission and thought that it looked like quality made stuff, but again it's the little things like no hardened surface where your expertise was key. Thanks

I will try my best to find all of it here, first, for sure. At least I have a chance at some of it being available locally or brought in locally by an importer. I'll see how good I can be at surfin the best price.

Modular Overrev, I need help. What is the RPM range for this cylinder? I have a Kymco Super 9 LC with an Airsal 70cc T6 cylinder, 19mm Arreche carb, and Technigas RS pipe. Will the Polini Evo 2 70cc give me more power, and at what RPM? Where can I get that cylinder kit, and will it fit my Minarelli powered Kymco?
Thank you

minarelli powered kymco? that's the first time i heard kymco using a competitors engine unless you did an engine swap.
could you post some pics of the engine from both sides?

I was under the impression that Kymco used a Minarelli engine,I must be wrong. I haven't swapped engines, just the cylinder, carb, and pipe. When I changed cylinders I went with what I thought was the best at the time. I didn't realize that there may be better options available. Couldn't find much of a selection for the Kymco Super 9. It's a 2005 LC version that I bought new. I don't race, but I do like a fast scooter. I'm not sure how to post pictures.

i run the same setup for the motor you do on my S9. which is the same year as yours, also a molosi variator and a torque driver mod. 7.5 g rollers ,porcipine arreche airfilter. you can go faster by a lot but if your not a racer, and spool it to 13500 or so rpm your gonna be rebuilding the motor frequently.. if you get the mlotor tuned properlly as is its 65mph which is not bad. my motor spools up to 10700 rpm as it is now and that is a lot. i cruise at around 9 thou or a little less which is gonna let the thing live a good life. your right there are parts that will let you rev it much higher but your not going to like the repair bills

I'm very pleased with the setup I have now. I will be doing the torque driver pulley next. Did you mill down the ridge on the pulley like scootertrog did? Band sand the collar until flush like his article suggests? I'll use the yellow spring and do the Malossi up-gear at the same time. I've had 2 cobras in the past where I had switched to the red TD spring and had problems with the nut working loose until it hit the drive belt cover. Any advice on that one? By the way, did you use the yellow rubber Malossi spring torsion control cap for the TD spring?

thge malossi TC (torsion contoller) is not made of rubber but of hard wearing plastic, i have used them on my dragscooters with good results, it's a worthy addition to your transmission.

i have never had the nut come loose and i use a molossi tq. sprig but its pretty stiff and it works great. if you have hills its perfect, and it lets the transmission work the way its supposed to. i forget the part number but its the second strongest one made its either the blue or violet if i was to take a long look around i couild prolly figure out which it is. in the city riding it shifts up and down the way its supposed to and i run the 7.5 rollers and a molossi variator also. i can top out just over 60 mph on flat no help from the wind. i think i coulod run 8 g rollers if i wanted too and it would give it more top end and still have grat take off.
