Hi again, 'prilia pals.

I noticed during my derestriction investigation on my Mille that there was a bit of oil in the airbox, and that the measuring tube had little or no oil showing.

I topped it off, but was wondering if this oil eating behavior is a natural occurance with the Rotax V-twin?

What are other's experiences with oil?

Might this have something to do with what may be a partial derestriction on my Mille (i.e. it looks like the air intakes have been cleared, but I don't know if it's been chipped yet)?

Thanks for putting up with my q's.

You'll naturally have oil accumulate over time from oil vapors coming from the crank case. Keep an eye on your sight tube (under the airbox) and drain when needed. It seems if you keep the oil level in the tank too high oil collects faster. I've found track and race conditions cause the same effect. In terms of checking oil height in the tank?....you'll get at least a doz ways to do it. I keep it visible (running or not) and don't worry about it. Mine and most others find the Rotax motor is pretty tight and doesn't drink much oil compared to other bikes. Another fix is to install a fuel filter on the air hose between the airbox and crank case. The filter traps most of the oily vapors and allows it to drip back into the crank case. Hope this helps.
