It struck me as a bit excessive to have used about 3 to 3.5 tanks of petrol after only 340 miles (running in so no excessive accelaertion).
Is this normal and if not can something be adjusted as I am not a racer just want to be as efficient as possible mainly through town commuting?
What should be the normal petrol usage ? I am using unleaded 95.

That seems a bit low, even if you are running in. I was/am getting about 150 miles per tank.
The first question that springs to mind is are you completely filling the tank?
I usually squeeze in enough to cover the bottom of the white liner to the filler - which means pulling the nozzle almost all the way out. I didn't do this the first time I 'filled-up', and consequently the fuel gauge did not show full - top bar black with fuel pump in grey - but only 5 bars black. (I have to do the same with my commuter scooter to get it to show full too). This is the only niggle I have with the bike, as you have to be very careful not to splash the odd drop of petrol into the tank top storage bay
Fuel consumption usually improves as the bike 'loosens up' during running in, but of course once you can go above 5K revs, then you can be a bit more 'heavy handed' with the throttle :):burnout:

My bike went from 19km/l in running in to 20km/l now (this is based on my 40km commute each way into town with a mixture of highway and local roads).
My BMW F650 would record about 23km/l on the same run. But:
- the Pegaso odometer appears to be spot on, whereas the F650 speedo was about 10%. This brings the effective fuel consumption of the F650 down to about 21km/l.
- I must admit I ride faster on the Pegaso!
Nevertheless, this motor is not known for its economy.

OK, my new Peg is what I would class as decently run in (1200 miles on the clock), I had the first service but still I cannot go more than 130miles on full to the brim tank.
Is this likely to stay this way or as more miles pass it will get better?
Is there any mods or settings that can improve this?
It strikes quiet poor performance to use 1l of petrol per 10 miles....I may be wrong of course!

In Germany the pegaso always got a bad score in the fuel consumption department, it is one of the thirstiest in the group (one cylinder motor) but your consumption sounds a bit high.
I ride my bike medium to hard and i get for 1 liter 18 (you get 16km=10mile) km if i ride very slow i can reach 22 km.
my fuel light will come on around 200-220 km
what is your CO value?, maybe you are running too rich?

My Strada now has 4150 miles on it and has averaged 50.84mpg since I brought it in May this year.

I'm getting about 50 - 55 MPG on the Trail at present after 2,000 odd miles.

I am running -10 CO. It seems to run smoothly...

I have never run it completely empty but at refill it uses 13-14 liters of fuel.
A full tank is 15, right?

Not sure, but once I did manage to fit 14.59 litres in mine.

I consistently get about 100 miles to a tank full (and that is VERY full), from my well run-in trail. My commute is about 60 miles a day, and I guess about 45 to 50 of that is on an A road doing between 70 and 95mph. I know the Peg gets a lot of wind resistence, especially at those speeds, but I'm still a bit disappointed with only 100 miles per tank. Maybe I expect too much and should control my right hand more (way hay!!)

Mine's new and from leaving the shop with a full tank (I was told), the fuel light came on this morning with 105 miles done. It then went out but came on a couple of miles later, so will fill up and see how much it takes.

I get around 130 miles from 11 to 12 litres which is the level that my fuel light comes alive... is full tank 17litres?

Aprilia claim 15 litres +/- 0.5 litres. I suppose the oly way to find out for sure is to dain you tank and measue the amount of fuel it takes to fill it right up.
Me, I just ride until it goes to one bar and start looking for fuel. I know it will go a few miles more (at least 21), but its a pain running out miles from a fuel station.

I get about 120 Miles on about £8. worth so thats about 60mpg ?
I IGNORE the guage and refill evry 120 miles whatever. Ive never had the light on as it get rough as a b****d after about 3bars left.
I have 3k miles now. Commute is Twisties/Single A / Urban 32 Miles each way.

Just a quick update. I said I always get about 100 miles to a tank on my Trail. In fact I meant 100 miles to reserve. But that is doing a lot of A Road miles at around 80 to 95mph. On my last tank-full I have been keeping the speed down to around the 70+ mark and I got about 120 to reserve! What a difference a bit of careful throttle/self control makes.

My Trail has done 13000 miles and normal riding gives me 116 miles then the reserve light comes on, then another 38 miles - then it stops. As it did recently whilst trying to find out the above.:whiner:

Still running mine in, but the last two tankfuls have seen just over 150 before warning light came on.
