Hello all, I have a 2000 Mille, the black, grey, silver colored one. I just picked up my bilke after waiting 3 weeks for service for a water pump leak.

I was really exicited about getting out for a ride today after not riding the bike since last august. I've been riding my BMW R1100s alot because its comfortable for my wife.

Anyway, I have been riding for 22 years now, and today I pulled a really humiliating move that is going to cost me some green backs.

I was leaving a popular chicago area sunday morning ride meeting place, attended by at least 300 other riders. I started to meander through the crowd to leave. Blipped my throtle before turning left at a furious 1-2 mph and suddenly......cough, gag, silence! I killed the motor somehow. The fork was turned left, I tried to get my left leg down to catch the bike. Best I could do is keep myself between the ground and the bike.

All could think as I was laying on the ground with the bike on ME was, crappp did I have to do this in front of 300 bikers I see on a regular basis, and this is definately going to cost me alot of money, and this really really going to cost me alot of money, and there is no way to erase this stupid move. I'm just glad I didn't take someone else down with me.

Damage Report, broken left turn signal, minor scrathes on all three left side pieces of the fairng (note to self, get frame sliders, better note to self DONT DROP THE BIKE, YOU IDIOT!) , scratched RSV mille sticker, and scratched chrome aprillia stickers.

I think I will actually be able to buff most of the scratches out of the fairing pieces, turn signal replacement shouldn't be too hard.

Long question short, does Aprilia sell original replacement stickers? Anyone have experience with this? I want to repair my beloved Mille ASAP. Can't stand the thought of all ribbing I'M going to recieve from my supposed riding pals all summer long;(

Any help and driving tips appreciated.......thanks for reading this!

BTW, I was not going to let this stop my riding today. Went out and did 350 miles up in the land of cheese (wisconsin)......great riding with my buddy on his MV, and me on my previously pristinge Mille. Oh, MV is beautiful, but the Mille pulled out of the corners like a freight train. Good thing I didn't wreck the back of the bike. Wouldn't want the veiw for my buddy on his MV not to be beautiful;)))))

Robert,

I just did a move last week about as silly but with fewer witnesses. My damage was a mirror, clutch lever, barend and stickers. The funny thing is I was debating frame sliders but was balking at cutting a hole on the fairing. Now that I've scratched them up a bit it makes that a lot less of an issue. To answer your question, I have found that stickers are available from the dealer only as a complete set to the tune of about $180. There are people who make replica stickers, but I have a 2001 R and the mid-fairing stickers go inside the side vent panels. I couldn't find anybody who made replicas of those. So with a clean slate I tried to come up with something else that would look good on the bike. Turns out I decided on something that looks a lot like the stock ones but don't go inside the vents. Chris Kruzel on the list here is making them for me. I heard his name from a few other posts here and people seem happy with his work. You can reach him at kruzel@drippinwet.com.

Don't feel bad, here is what happened to me :

Two friends and I having a great time on a twisty road, then that wonderful road turns into a "can't see the end" straightaway. I was riding in first position at this time, so I decide to pull over and stop, we all get the maps out and start thinking of what would be a good place to go. While we were scratching our heads a lot of cars and trucks were passing by blowing some strong wind. Our attention was then attracted by something black moving in front of us, it was my RSV moving from leaning on the sidestand to balancing and finaly falling on the other side. I was already counting how many fairing bits will need to be replaced.

There was not much damage hopefuly, the brake lever and the bar hit the curb and did a very good job at absorbing the energy, the brake lever broke and the bar got seriously bent, otherwise I only had scratches on the top of the turn signal, on some stickers and fairing but nothing serious.

Throttle was stuck and could not rotate because of the bent bar so I had to loosen some screws to get it to work, next thing was riding about 60 miles without front brakes to get back home. Well I was happy it was a V twin and not a 4 in-line I made it using engine braking and lots of concentration on the traffic.

Mille0002,

Let me know if you order these stickers for your left side from a Dealer as I need some for my right side - notably the "P" from the large, silver "APRILIA" on the lower fairing.

I might have to replace the entire "APRILIA" because I'll never get just one letter aligned properly....

Last I checked, RSVR.net sells the OEM stickers without making you purchase a complete set.

Sorry about your mishap. What kind of sliders are you thinking of? I'd like to get some sliders myself but I'm not sure which ones. Is there a set of sliders that actually work but doesn't need fairing-cut? Anyone?

Thanks Mfield. Those look very good. Anyone else have another suggestion for sliders?

BTW, Mfield, where did you got those?

While those sliders do not require cutting I can tell you that many have complained due to interference with feet. Additionally, they are placed so far back that in several crashes that I personnally witnessed all the bikes had rotated forward causing extensive plastic damage. I went with the version that does require cutting. Quite please as a year of so ago I highsided and the side panel was never even scratched. www.sports-mc.dk
