As most of us do, we de-restrict our bikes. But , at least in my case, there is this 5 or 6 inch long metal piece with 2 or 3 inch diameter right behind the rear light housing under the seat.
It takes up some useful space and from what I read this is a vapor recovery system. it is connected through a huge web of tubes throughout the bike and I definetely think it has no function hence it needs to go! Any ideas guys?
Can I just rip it out and leave the tubes, or should I handle this more cautiously in order to avoid problems somewhere down the road.
Thanks for your helpful tips!
Erik

What are you doing with a CA emissions setup if you're in TX?

I have owned bikes where doing such a thing actually improved performance, however on this bike I don't think there is any performance gain to be had whatsoever by removing this equipment. Think twice about doing this unecessary surgery. You may actuall be doing more harm than good.

Indeed mine is a CA approved bike and since I live in Texas I was wondering why do I have to drive around with all that junk on my bike. Of course if somebody can give me a good reason to keep it I will consider it but it has to be a good reason ;-) !!

Hey Dutch, check this out:
emmisions canister removal (http://falco.hadeler.net/Sections+index-req-viewarticle-artid-3-page-1.html)
I did mine on my R & suffered no ill effects, nor has anyone else posted any negative results if my decrepid memory serves. ;)

Not a Tuono, but I had mine removed from my RSV and there's no difference, except that now I have more trunk space. Go for it, should be fine so long as it's done correctly.

I removed mine at 600 miles. I have 4600 miles and no performance problems regarding the removal. I extra storage space is very handy.

Dutch:
I got a CA model in IL also. I had mine removed during 600mi service. While I doubt there's any perf increase, I know these systems can cause problems when they clog up and such.

On my BMW K bike, I know when they clog, they can creat vacuum in the fuel tank.

Try this link. Same site different page. Scroll down about 1/4 of the way. It is tittled "Removing the Falco’s Fuel Vapor Recovery System." I also plan on removing mine this weekend. Hopefully it wil be as easy as eveyone says.

I am realy looking forward to having the extra trunk space. Next step for me is exhaust. I can't decide between a Leo or Tigcraft slip-on. The money I would save on the Leo I could use to buy the FP chip. But I like the way the Tig looks. I have read the chip that comes with the Tig is crap.

If you can, go with a full akra or Tigs. If you cant get the full system, just save your money and get the Leo. There isnt a lot of difference between slip-ons except the name thats on the side.

I wish I could afford a full system. I will probally take your advice and go with the Leo. I just don't like the yellow grapics on the can. But for $300 less than Tig I think I can live with it. Thanks for the advice.

5 minutes of peeling and cleaning and the decal is gone...
This was a picture to show off my luggage, but you can see my Leo is free and clear of the Yellow crap.

You just made day!!!!!!:worship:
I am sold. The Leo it is.
Looks 100% better without the yellow. I don't think I have ever seen a Leo without the graphic. Or have seen one and just not notice it.

Hey- nice bags! I just got a set from the Almost New closeout, but haven't fitted them yet.

How do yours work with the blinkers, if you have them in the stock location? Simply throwing the bags over the bike, the fitting looks like it may be compromised a bit.

BTW< I still have the dang cannister as well, thanks for reviving this thread, I had lost the link to the process.

Thanks! i got those on closeout from NewEnough.com for............ :worship: $32
theyve got some Teknics right now for about $30-40 per set but theyre all sold out of these.

Theyre Nelson Rigg and theyre absolutely huge. they expand out even wider than this. You can see that they do block the signals from the sides, but from straight back you can see them fine. I run one strap under the pillion seat and the front strap goes right behind the riders seat. I use the raised up part to the pillion to rest the front strap against to ensure they dont fly off backwards.

but, but, but... my questions was about the rear blinkers...

I don't see no steenking rear blinkers!

Theyre mounted on the license plate bracket. if you look real closely in the top pic you can see the left one. if they were lit up you could see them really well.

Guess we'll have to remember those hand + arm signals when there's traffic behind us...

Removed the vapor recovery system last night. Just bought me a camers too. thought I would try post pic of all the trunk space I got now. Thinking about cutting out the divider so I would have one big open space. Road the bike after I got done for about 30min and no problems. This morning I road it in the rain and still no problems. So it looks like I didn't mess anything up.

I like my divider. it gives the PC3 an unmolestable space in the trunk and keeps my ins card nice and secure.

I think it's handy for holding a small tool kit nice and snug.
Just my two cents...

I just removed the vapor system yesterday following the Falco page instructions. Very easy removal, and the instructions were spot on. For those in the states, go to Autozone and buy a Vacuum tube cap kit. It comes with all the necessary sizes, and gives you a few extras for spares. $6.99.

BTW, the canister, associates tubes and hardware weighs in at 2lbs (US).

Tip: You might want to print the pictures out as seperate pieces if you can't follow worded instructions very well.

anyone mind if i :bump: this? Figured it might be of interest to some people.... like me ;)

sticky, maybe?

BTW, my bike was originally titled in Florida.... and it's got the fuel vapor recovery on it.

Mine was originally solid in Maryland and had it.
I think Aprilia built X number with CA emmissions and sold them where they could.
It's a 10 minute mod- does nothing for performance but does give you a bit more trunk space.

Mine came from NJ and had it. Removed it.
My 2003 Falco did not have one.

I think early on Aprilia did make some of the bikes with them for Ca. It probably got to hard and they just went with all of them having the cannister. Plus I believe the import laws require them anyway. My 2002 Duc had one on it.
