As you may or may not know, for the past year or so Ive owned a 2001 Aprilia RS125 Stroker.
I bought the bike from Coventry, a day after the previous owner had put the engine back in after its third top end rebuild.
The ride back to Yorkshire along the A-Roads took care of most of the run in period, and an early morning start the following day not only finished off the 500 mile mark, but also gave me 3 points after I over took an unmarked Police car.
I used the bike every day while the wife was off work with the new born, cold starts every morning, and evening.
I also spent quite a lot of times, leaving my then 600 Yama riding mate on the B-Roads at the weekend.
It took me to Santa Pod flat out down the A1 was GTI Festival, then to Peterborough a week before Le Mans last year as Id forgotten to sort out a passport.
I wasn't expecting the ride back there the day I was leaving for France (they forgot to post it), but it made the trip there, and onto Kiddiminster for the most un-comfortable passenger ride of my life in a Plastic Vauxhall.
It even got me back to Yorkshire when I got back in the country.
Only thing was, it couldn't manage the trip to Medowhell the day later and the engine seized.
Not bad really, to say I had done (on estimate, as of course, the speedo cable would only last a week after being replaced before it snapped once more) well over 6000 miles, on a bike which was still on its stock bottom end.
No sweat then.
Spent a couple of hours removing the engine (and finding the rear shock absorber had collapsed at some point, meaning the bike was literary holding its self together with the weight of the bike!) put it in a box and sent it off to have its first bottom end rebuild.
£600 later, the engine is returned (Minus a internal gasket causing countless hours looking for a water leak!!!) and part way through, I got bored and bought a Polo GTI.
Anyway a month or two later I get bored of the Polo, find the leak, shout at the engine builders. and receive the gasket through the post, and set about pulling apart £600 worth of rebuilt engine (there was no way I was pulling the lump out again to send it back!)
Job done.
Take it round the block, arrive 500 yards from my Mums garage where it had lived for the past six months and I lose gears.
Fix it.
Lose gears.
Fix it...
Get bored.
A month later, Mother has sold her house, and wants the bike out the way.
I find a technical diagram, and decide to call my local dealer and order every spring and washer needed for the linkage.
Now I have some history with this dealership, the last parts I ordered were a pair of foot pegs I ordered when a man who I think deep down, watched love films and read Heat Magazine hit me side on.
This was around a year ago.
They are still on back order.
I'm using the rear pegs at the moment.
So I explain the gearbox has broke on my useless 'I cant build a' VW and I was using a Saxo so it was vital I received the spring and washer ASAP and can not afford to wait three years.
He takes my credit card number, explains he will take a £5 deposit, and order them from Rotex as it'll be quicker.
Two weeks later, no parts.
Called him
"I'll post them tonight"
Week later, speak to some twit who tells me hes off today, hasn't sent them as hes lost my credit card but requires an extra £15
I paid him, and explained he must post them that day, as I did not want to collect them as I did not want to punch him in the face.
He agreed postage would be best.
Today parts arrived (6 days later-although still no foot pegs) £14 for the spring, £6 for a washer!!!
Removed gearbox, found the washer, realised the spring was fitted.
Punched myself and rode home.
Pissed off, 6krpm, but still feeling the Stroker love again :plus:
Oh yes, 27 years old 9 points.
First quote £529!
New quote £106 including the monthly instalments of £8 month.
Should go well with the £15 road tax lol
