When i swapped from my Bandit 12 to the Peg it was a huge suprise that the insurance quote doubled! My original insurers had never heard of it and wouldn't give cover due to it being an aprilia. As I was due to pick up the Peg I didn't have time to shop around and so took the first option I was given, so when its due this year i'd like to be prepared so my question to you all is who do you recommend (i'm with motorcycle direct who were the cheapest by far for the Bandit) but £400 seems steep at 36 with full no claims and a clean full licence for 19 years. It didn't help that the advisor wouldn't accept that it has a built in immobiliser/ chipped key as it doesn't have a fancy name like Honda's HISS.

I know when I got insurance quotes for my new Strada last April 2006 a lot of the insurance companies didn't have the bike on their systems, be that on websites or when I called them. I would have thought that will have changed this year now the bike is a few years old and more popular.

I ended up getting my insurance with the Aprilia Insurance scheme which is on the aprilia.com website. It is through Lexham insurance 0845 6050546 http://www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk/aprilia-insurance.php

I did get quotes from other companies but I only remember Bennetts
being one of those companies.
I'd suggest having a quick look on the different insurance companies websites and see if the bike is now listed.

My insurance for a 32yr old, in Lancashire, clean licence, bike licence held for 13years, but not had bike insurance for 5 years was £500. Which I thought was fair enough as I've not had a road bike for 5 years.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

just insured my caponard through A Quote on the internet, brand new bike with alrm, disc lock, chain etc and garaged £366pa. fully comp with european travel, only passed my DAS last year after 30 years not riding so no `no claims` bonus, at first i thought this was expensive after i`d insured my guzzi which was only £132, most other companies where in the £500+ bracket i think its all down to it being an aprilia.

My insurance also went up when I bought the Strada even though my previous bike was a VFR 800, I was given the same reason as others that the bike was a new model and not yet on the insurance company's system.
Mine was £200 fully comp (the only benefit of being an old timer - 55) with Premium Saver.

I've just filled in the online application for lexhams so I'll see what they come back with,Its not due till August so plenty of time to sort it out. I don't think it helps being in the motor trade though

opps wandered in from the capo area

Have you tried Carole Nash or ebike

I'm an old git (well under 50) and have a classic policy with Carole Nash with number of bikes on it .....£286 fully comp:)

Of the reason for wandering over is I'm seriously thinking about the pegaso trail ...tad lighter than the capo but will I miss the power? .I need to test ride one (local dealer hasn't got a demo:pissed: )

:( I know where your coming from with that one.

I'm 30, had a full bike licence for 7 years but not had a road bike for the last 5 so lost all my no claims. I'm £468 fully comp through Bennets.

Had the same argument on the phone with the guy when he wouldn't acknowledge the bike has a factory immobilizer.

My mate's got a 05 Capo. Nice bike, but a bit too big for my needs. I was really impressed with it, never ridden one, but for the size of the thing he fairly throws it around.

Never ridden a Trail either but id' love a shot of Rodrigo's bike with the enduro tyres http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105967.

Looks like great fun. :)

Yes you can throw the capo around ...once the suspension been played. Its still a very large lump and with winter wet and greasey road surfaces not much fun but then again not fun on any bike.

Yes my "needs " have changed so might swap bikes ....but is there enough power (for me and my needs ) and whats the MPG like on them.

This threads going off topic... sorry Baz.:)

It does between 100 and 130 miles to a tank depending on how your riding it.

I do sometimes wish i had more power. Especially an long straights at 80 and above (i dont have a screen). But on the twisties between 30 and 70 it has enough grunt to feel quick, but a nice fun kinda quick and not intimidating. It's the Strada i have so cant comment on the trail. Have a look though past posts, there's plenty info on how the bike goes. I put up a vid recently of a short run. :)

Hi all

I'm new to the forum, just joined as I'm thinking about getting a pegaso. I can't decide between the two though, if a set of wheels from the strada fit the trail.......

Anyway back on topic, the insurance factor is a concern, as I've looked at a couple of companies, big name brokers, and two don't list the bike, the other suggested it would be a special case and to phone them. The alternative is a BMW F650GS, I considered a KTM adventure too, but am not convinced of their reliability. This insurance issue could put me off a good little bike, especially as I can get one from the local shop (only 20 miles), the next nearest franchised dealer is 110 miles away.

I ended up with Aprilia Insurance via Lexham at £134.00 fully comp. I have a Datatool S4 fitted and it is kept in a garage etc. Oh, and when I was born God's Dog was a puppy!

When I got my Pegaso, I was suprised at the cost compared to the baghira. The Baggi was an addtional £80, teh Pegaso £105. My total insurance bill for my bikes os now approaching £500 :(
I suppose being over 50, with no accidents for several years and haveing a bike insured non stop since 16 helps :)

I was a bit miffed when I changed from my 120bhp Triumph Sprint RS to the peg, they charged me £30 admin fee. Considering the bike is at least 4 insurance groups lower. I did notice that the excess had reduced from £250 to £150:)

Looking forward to Septembers quote. 45 years old, 4 years NCD, Member Institute of Advanced Motorcyclist, Thatcham cat 1 alarm, and garaged. I am expecting well below £200.

I down sized from an BMW r1100gs to my PEG, At 38yrs with 7 yrs no claims and 3 points, my insurance company let me change for £25 (admin charge). A renewal quote was £147 full comp, thats with carol nash (garage + datatag but no fancy alarm). Though they did have problems finding the bike on the system and they could'nt do it 'on line' as the bike does't show. This was in April this year.

Currently I'm running an R1150GS, insured with Footman James fully comp for £160. Thats with full NCD and living on in the arctic (go to John o'Groats and turn left), I'd be adding the Peg or whatever onto that policy.

Just tried a quote with Hastings Direct after taking a car policy with them. They came in at £147 with £100 excess fully comprehensive on the bike:cheers:

Just got this years insurance sorted and with the same cover as last year the price is down from £200 to £100; I changed from Premium Saver to Bennetts. Most of the brokers I checked are using Equity Red Star to insure with but there are big variation in the totals.

Just ordered a new peg trail, my insurers wanted £35 to add it onto the remainder of the Beemers policy, most of that is admin. It'll cost me an extra £60 for a year - not too bad.

The last bike i had was a older peg 3 years ago. I also had a peg stolen just before that but i got my insureance through bennetts. I had to do it on the phone and wait while they looked it up total fully comp with legal expenses cover helmet and clothing was a shade over £200 which i felt was ok because i really couldnt be arsed looking around.

For someone with nil bike no-claims discount, and nil bike experience, I was quite impressed with a quote of £220 from bennets fully comp (inc datatool alarm & "gold" Monster locks) for up to 10,000 miles per annum as my first ever bike policy, got a couple of other quotes and they were significantly more so I added cover for business mileage and legal protection which took it to a little over £300
