Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where to find the Key Codes for the key?

What I'm trying to do is order some replacement originals (from code - ie. not a copy off the one I have here) that will already be cut to match my Genuine Original key.

Thanks IA :)

If you mean the key code you need to enter in the dashboard when using an unoriginal key it's 45256

The Key Code that I'm refering to is this - If I was to go to a locksmith to get a key cut without taking in a key to copy, where abouts would the Code be found? Is it VIN or sme number on the scooter that identifies which key to be cut?

It's hard to describe what I am trying to say :(

FOR EXAMPLE:
I have a BLANK key that needs cutting, and lets say that I have lost my key. How do I find out what code (key number) that needs to be used in order for a key to be cut?

I think you simply need the original key no other possibility. Otherwise you have to change all the locks on the bike. To answer DonWerner old SR50 not the new factory versions don't have a code in the key

What you need to do is measure the depth of each cut in the key with a caliper, the code is the depths starting at the key head and working to the tip. there is a chart (called depth & space chart) that converts your measurments to digits of the code... I have books of charts, I will look later to see if it covers aprilia.

I remember taken my key to locksmiths etc. and they could only cut a Genuine Aprilia blank. For those of us with the "new" SR50 a Genuine Aprilia blank (without chip/transponder) is around $10USD. With a chip/transponder, the price jumps to $45USD.

I also think each bike was to be programmed with a different code by the dealer, but am not sure....

Getting the blanks is not a problem and the key if I wish to use it, is like new, so making a "copy" from the Genuine Original isn't an issue.

As techrat1 pointed out, the key code can be obtained from the cuttings from the key (I further read-up on it after he wrote). I also don't need to take in the original genuine key as a good photo/picture can also be used to determine the code from a skilled locksmith.

FYI, the benefit using the key code method in creating a new key is that it is identical to that of the genuine/factory key. A "copy" may have imperfections if a worn genuine original key is used as a template. That's why some "copy" keys don't work too well, and may end up damaging your lock barrel(s).

The key codes usually come with the original keys either in the form of a little metal tag with the numbers stamped onto it or on a piece of plastic that joins the 2 keys when new, you have to "break" the keys off. If it was on the plastic piece and your not the 1st owner it could of been thrown away...

I went to a small, Specialist Locksmith today. Last week I tried a shopping mall (key/engraving) one and his key blank range didn't cover this particular lock/barrel. The Specialist was also very informative on the manufacturer of the barrels and said they are used by some well known vehicle makers (Moto Guzzi, KTM, Yamaha, Holden [Aus]). Very interesting discussion, anyway....

This is the Key Part Number from SILCA (Italy):
ZD24RDP
The Locksmith could not find the Aprilia Key Code in his database (as I assume it maybe in-house), so he made it based on my Aprilia genuine Key with calipers, for the above SILCA key - woohoo!!!

This cost $8 which included key (blank), cutting and coding :)

NOTE: This is not for a "chip" key.
