right, my bike doesnt want to start on the button, but as soon as you bump it it fires to life but then dies agin. my
dad recons it could be either something fuel related which were gonna check tomorrow, or something electrical. he thinks it might be the generator or the coil. is there a way of testing them? could it be anything else. its just had a new plug!

if it fires up, as in actually runs not just turns over. Then it isn't an electrical problem

The starter turns, but it doesn't fire up right away?
Does it change anything if the engine is warm or not?

its slightly better when warm. its turning over fine but just wont spark as if theres not enough power to spark. we put a plug in and watched it, when we electric started it it had a spark but when we bumped it it had a crazy spark. so its not sparking as well on the button. ittl start first time when i bump but it just dies when i give it some throttle.

very odd that. I think the crazy spark when bumping is just beacause you can't focus on it properly. Will it not tickover after being bumped?
Hows the compression?
have you checked all the leads are tight in the cdi, and that the ht is screwed firmly into plug top and cdi. also check plug top with another in its place. If you can, try another length of HT.
Could be an intermitten stator problem

do a load test on the battery

sometimes it will tick over but others not?

dont really know too much about the electrics but could it be the thing that regulates the voltage, so when it gets more revs from bump starting it gets a sudden surge of electricity so a bigger spark

The ignition on this is self energising from the stator coil. It doesn't use the battery. Bump starting will probably give more power into the CDI as the revs will be higher. Possible problems could be generator, cdi or coil - is the coil integrated with the cdi on this bike - I can't remember. Voltage regulator is also possible, or even an s/c rectifer dumping the power, (regulator and rectifier are seperate units on the RS50) but these two are unlikely culprits. There is also a pick up coil in the stator assembley to provide timing. This is unlikely to be faulty if the motor starts. Coil breaking down after a few cycles is a possible.
There are basic resistance checks for the coil and stator in the workshop manual, but the only real test is substitution.

yep. the pick up is integrated in the stator mass. Not on the outside of the flywheel

right went to maxmoto and they recon it could be because there is a small hole in the exhaust and because it has and airfilter that doesnt fit properly? could this be it?

For some reason i doubt it, indirectly with a airfilter that doesn''t fit you might have gotten some crap/water in the system wich probably wouldn't be great for the engine, not sure it fits your troubles though. benig a two stroke, a hole in the exoust would probably end up giving it wrong back pressiure witch would make you lose power and give you some rough running, but i think it should start and run good enough to use it. Have you tried charging the battery?

mate of mine had an aerox 50, it ran with no exhaust at all. DOn't think thts your problem.
